00:00:00.017 --> 00:00:07.437
Welcome back, my amazing listeners, to Diary of a Black Woman podcast with our devotional series.

00:00:07.777 --> 00:00:16.517
If you tuned in last time, we kicked things off by talking about asking God with bold faith.

00:00:16.917 --> 00:00:19.777
Today, we're taking it up a notch.

00:00:20.437 --> 00:00:26.957
Oh, you know it, the wait. And let me tell you, the waiting room is where your

00:00:26.957 --> 00:00:32.577
faith is stretched. and sometimes seriously tested.

00:00:33.637 --> 00:00:37.237
Now, waiting can feel like the hardest part of your spiritual journey,

00:00:37.397 --> 00:00:41.257
right? You ask and then silence.

00:00:41.877 --> 00:00:47.017
But here's what I want you to hear today. This is what I want you to hear today.

00:00:47.257 --> 00:00:51.157
The wait is where God is working behind the scenes.

00:00:51.157 --> 00:00:58.437
We're about to dive into a story of a bold prophet named Habakkuk who wasn't

00:00:58.437 --> 00:01:03.737
afraid to ask God the tough questions and then waited expectantly.

00:01:04.237 --> 00:01:09.197
Are you ready to grow your faith in the wait? Let's do this.

00:01:10.297 --> 00:01:18.017
All right, picture this. Habakkuk, a prophet, looked at the chaos around him like we do today.

00:01:18.237 --> 00:01:23.737
He looked at the chaos around him and said, God, what is going on here?

00:01:24.257 --> 00:01:30.217
That's real, right? I mean, we've all had those moments when life feels out

00:01:30.217 --> 00:01:34.257
of control and we're like, God, where are you?

00:01:34.777 --> 00:01:38.197
But here's what makes Habakkuk's story incredible.

00:01:38.757 --> 00:01:44.737
After he laid this question before the Lord. He didn't walk around frustrated.

00:01:45.117 --> 00:01:49.277
He positioned himself to wait expectantly.

00:01:50.197 --> 00:01:56.117
So let's break this down. Waiting on God is not about sitting around twiddling our thumbs.

00:01:56.397 --> 00:02:05.177
It's about positioning yourself with an expected heart ready to see God move.

00:02:05.980 --> 00:02:11.520
Habakkuk stood on his watchtower, ready for God's answer.

00:02:11.940 --> 00:02:18.560
So today we're going to dive into Habakkuk one and two and discover how to wait

00:02:18.560 --> 00:02:24.660
on God with faith, patience, and a spirit of expectation.

00:02:25.080 --> 00:02:30.680
So let's go into Habakkuk chapter one, two, and one through four.

00:02:31.380 --> 00:02:35.240
Excuse me. In these chapters, Habakkuk is real with God.

00:02:35.560 --> 00:02:41.420
He's bold enough to ask, why do you let this injustice go on?

00:02:41.520 --> 00:02:43.600
So he's bold enough to go before the Lord.

00:02:43.760 --> 00:02:49.920
He's looking around and he's saying, why are you letting this injustice go on?

00:02:50.520 --> 00:02:57.500
Why is violence everywhere? In Habakkuk 2.1, we see something powerful.

00:02:58.240 --> 00:03:00.320
His response to what God says.

00:03:00.420 --> 00:03:04.300
He said, I will stand at my watch and station myself.

00:03:04.640 --> 00:03:12.240
I will look to see what he will say to me. This isn't a passive waiting. It is active faith.

00:03:12.760 --> 00:03:17.520
He's not doubting if God will answer. He's standing at attention,

00:03:17.780 --> 00:03:20.040
expecting God to show up.

00:03:20.180 --> 00:03:25.000
How many times have we done that? We've prayed a prayer and then someone says,

00:03:25.200 --> 00:03:27.800
have you heard from God? And you go like, well, I'm waiting on him.

00:03:27.940 --> 00:03:33.980
How are you waiting on God? Are you waiting on him with an expectation like Habakkuk?

00:03:34.100 --> 00:03:41.480
He went on his tower and he waited in expectation to see what God would do.

00:03:42.800 --> 00:03:46.080
It says here, listen, God can handle your questions.

00:03:47.020 --> 00:03:54.160
Habakkuk didn't sugarcoat anything. He brought his raw, honest feelings to God.

00:03:54.520 --> 00:03:56.860
And God wants that from you too.

00:03:57.440 --> 00:04:01.320
But what says Habakkuk apart is his posture of waiting.

00:04:01.600 --> 00:04:04.700
He wasn't impatiently pacing or giving up.

00:04:04.860 --> 00:04:10.060
He was waiting like a soldier on duty, ready for God's direction.

00:04:10.060 --> 00:04:12.980
This is a major lesson for us.

00:04:13.120 --> 00:04:16.900
So when you ask, get ready to hear.

00:04:17.320 --> 00:04:21.560
Be in a position where your faith is on high alert.

00:04:21.880 --> 00:04:29.740
Oh, that's good. When you ask, position yourself to hear from God.

00:04:29.980 --> 00:04:33.140
So sometimes we'll ask a question. I don't know if that's you.

00:04:33.320 --> 00:04:38.960
We'll ask in prayer and then we'll go on with our other lists and never position

00:04:38.960 --> 00:04:44.420
ourselves during our prayer time, just a silent time to see if God is going

00:04:44.420 --> 00:04:46.520
to respond to our prayers.

00:04:46.660 --> 00:04:52.480
If you pray a lot, and some of you are, it is a continual pray.

00:04:52.680 --> 00:04:57.480
You probably do. Those people who are listening to podcasts about prayer and

00:04:57.480 --> 00:05:00.780
Bible stuff, you're in an expectation of prayer.

00:05:00.960 --> 00:05:06.520
And so the conversation that you have with God is not like a stop and go.

00:05:06.760 --> 00:05:11.540
It seems to me in my prayer time, it's an ongoing conversation.

00:05:11.540 --> 00:05:17.260
So if it's an ongoing conversation that the conversation really never ends,

00:05:17.380 --> 00:05:19.980
you ever notice that? So you can go to him after...

00:05:20.807 --> 00:05:25.107
Praying in the morning, you might have a prayer request and you go to him in

00:05:25.107 --> 00:05:28.187
the evening. This is an ongoing conversation.

00:05:28.727 --> 00:05:32.627
And I think Habakkuk has that relationship with God where he will have these

00:05:32.627 --> 00:05:38.607
bold questions, but then he will go as an ongoing conversation and still wait

00:05:38.607 --> 00:05:42.807
to hear from God because the conversation is going,

00:05:42.987 --> 00:05:45.127
ongoing. It doesn't stop.

00:05:45.447 --> 00:05:48.787
You're not praying and then you stop and start another prayer.

00:05:48.787 --> 00:05:53.587
If you're a prayer, an intercessor, if you're just a prayer and you just pray

00:05:53.587 --> 00:05:58.267
all the time, the prayer that you have with God is always, always ongoing.

00:05:58.707 --> 00:06:02.587
Even your dreams are ongoing. Everything has this storyline.

00:06:03.027 --> 00:06:09.947
It continues on. But I love this. It says he wasn't impatiently pacing or giving up. Excuse me.

00:06:10.687 --> 00:06:16.927
He was waiting like a soldier on duty, ready for God's direction.

00:06:16.927 --> 00:06:20.347
This is a major lesson when you ask.

00:06:20.667 --> 00:06:25.567
Get ready to hear. Get in position to hear.

00:06:25.767 --> 00:06:29.167
Get ready to hear the answer from God.

00:06:29.407 --> 00:06:34.207
Be in a position where your faith is on high alert.

00:06:34.947 --> 00:06:40.827
Faith grows in the waiting room. It's not easy, I know, but faith isn't just

00:06:40.827 --> 00:06:43.647
about believing when things happen fast.

00:06:43.807 --> 00:06:48.267
It's about trusting God when everything feels low.

00:06:48.927 --> 00:06:55.167
So James 1.17 reminds us that every good and perfect gifts come from above,

00:06:55.167 --> 00:07:01.627
but sometimes those gifts come after a season of waiting.

00:07:01.827 --> 00:07:05.707
And you know what? the wait isn't a waste of time.

00:07:05.987 --> 00:07:10.847
God's preparing something greater than you can imagine.

00:07:12.127 --> 00:07:16.927
James 1.17 is your lifeline during the wait.

00:07:17.247 --> 00:07:24.927
Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the

00:07:24.927 --> 00:07:31.827
heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. So what a promise, right?

00:07:32.027 --> 00:07:41.647
Even when it seems like nothing is happening, God is setting up something perfect in his timing.

00:07:41.907 --> 00:07:47.247
How powerful is that, right? God is setting something up perfect in his timing.

00:07:47.247 --> 00:07:52.567
So while you wait, hold on to this truth.

00:07:53.127 --> 00:08:00.347
God's gifts are always good, and he's working things out even when you can't

00:08:00.347 --> 00:08:03.167
see it. I love what Habakkuk does.

00:08:03.427 --> 00:08:06.067
Get in a position to hear.

00:08:06.347 --> 00:08:14.887
Take time to listen to what God has to say. Let's go back over Habakkuk I love

00:08:14.887 --> 00:08:19.287
Habakkuk It says wait expectantly For God's answer.

00:08:20.223 --> 00:08:23.303
Waiting can feel like the hardest part of our faith journey,

00:08:23.303 --> 00:08:33.183
but the truth is, it's in the waiting that God does some of his greatest work in us.

00:08:33.903 --> 00:08:38.423
Habakkuk shows us how to wait expectantly.

00:08:38.763 --> 00:08:44.443
He asks tough questions and when positioned himself to hear,

00:08:44.623 --> 00:08:48.783
and then he positions himself to hear from God with confidence.

00:08:49.463 --> 00:08:56.423
Waiting is never passive. It's the stance of trust, knowing that God's timing

00:08:56.423 --> 00:08:59.243
is perfect. He is not delayed.

00:08:59.803 --> 00:09:03.123
He will not delay beyond what is needed.

00:09:03.403 --> 00:09:09.423
Sometimes when I pray, like this morning, I can say, I had a lot of questions,

00:09:09.463 --> 00:09:12.923
but then when I sat in the presence of God,

00:09:13.143 --> 00:09:18.863
they seemed like I just sat there and he answered them without me even saying a word.

00:09:19.403 --> 00:09:24.543
And most of those questions were kind of, you know, they just a lot of questions

00:09:24.543 --> 00:09:27.823
like Habakkuk, what's going on? Little questions like that.

00:09:28.263 --> 00:09:32.163
Little questions, just wanted to know what was going on. When is this?

00:09:32.343 --> 00:09:34.363
When is that? This was kind of busy questions.

00:09:34.643 --> 00:09:39.183
But once I sat in the presence of God and just sat there quietly.

00:09:39.743 --> 00:09:42.643
It's like he answered them without me saying a word.

00:09:43.530 --> 00:09:51.530
In the waiting, in the expectation of wanting to hear, not always opening my mouth.

00:09:52.090 --> 00:09:55.430
Like, you know, you have the, you know, in a classroom, you always have the

00:09:55.430 --> 00:10:00.370
student, if they would just listen to the question or take time to listen,

00:10:00.690 --> 00:10:03.790
they can figure out the answer or how the process works.

00:10:03.790 --> 00:10:10.510
But they got 12 questions in a row, you know, those type of ways that you You can go before God.

00:10:10.810 --> 00:10:15.830
You just kind of sit back and listen. And a lot of times you can hear the scriptures

00:10:15.830 --> 00:10:22.270
that he wants you to know about the answers because his word is inside of you, right?

00:10:22.590 --> 00:10:28.950
You know, and so I love Habakkuk. So waiting in expectation to hear from God.

00:10:29.610 --> 00:10:35.710
Waiting in silence with intentionality, intentionality just to listen,

00:10:36.110 --> 00:10:39.330
not always going before him with a whole lot of questions.

00:10:39.570 --> 00:10:42.870
Nothing wrong with that. It's a time and a season. But sometimes,

00:10:43.010 --> 00:10:46.690
like I said, if you're in prayer a lot, the conversation is ongoing.

00:10:46.910 --> 00:10:50.290
And sometimes it answers your questions before you ask them.

00:10:50.930 --> 00:10:57.230
What are you waiting for right now? Whether it's an answer, a breakthrough, or a move of God.

00:10:57.490 --> 00:11:01.450
Remember that God's silence doesn't mean inactivity.

00:11:01.770 --> 00:11:04.470
He's preparing something amazing.

00:11:04.990 --> 00:11:10.770
Say it, amazing. God does amazing things in your way.

00:11:11.050 --> 00:11:15.310
So just a couple points of encouragement and then some scripture for support.

00:11:16.270 --> 00:11:18.890
Number one, wait with expectation.

00:11:19.870 --> 00:11:25.530
Habakkuk waited with faith, in faith, fully expecting God's response.

00:11:26.390 --> 00:11:31.530
Trust that God is faithful and will answer in his perfect timing.

00:11:32.030 --> 00:11:37.390
Your wait is not wasted. Number two, during the wait, God is strengthening you,

00:11:37.630 --> 00:11:44.010
preparing your heart and setting things in motion that you cannot see. So don't give away.

00:11:45.114 --> 00:11:50.254
Position yourself to hear, like Habakkuk. Stand ready and attentive.

00:11:50.674 --> 00:11:58.294
Keep praying, stay faithful, and be alert for God's voice in unexpected places.

00:11:59.214 --> 00:12:04.374
I want to repeat that. Position yourself to hear, like Habakkuk.

00:12:04.974 --> 00:12:11.014
Stand ready, attentive. attentive, keep praying, stay faithful,

00:12:11.014 --> 00:12:16.034
and be alert for God's voice in unexpected places.

00:12:16.454 --> 00:12:22.154
And he does speak to you, your answer in unexpected places.

00:12:22.694 --> 00:12:27.154
It might not be while you're sitting there waiting. It could come across.

00:12:27.574 --> 00:12:34.774
It's always fun. God knows how to get your attention. He knows how to answer your prayers.

00:12:35.954 --> 00:12:42.094
And I think he enjoys that. It'll give you your answer at these unexpected places, times.

00:12:43.414 --> 00:12:49.454
Okay, our scripture foundation is Habakkuk 1, 2, and 1 through 4.

00:12:49.794 --> 00:12:54.394
But any additional scriptures, supporting scriptures, Psalms 27,

00:12:54.754 --> 00:13:02.454
14, I read, Wait for the Lord, be strong, and let your heart take courage. way for the Lord.

00:13:02.734 --> 00:13:07.794
This encourages bold patience, trusting that God is faithful,

00:13:08.074 --> 00:13:13.414
even when we don't see immediate results.

00:13:14.453 --> 00:13:20.693
Isaiah 40, 31, but they who wait for the Lord should renew their strength.

00:13:21.033 --> 00:13:26.333
They should mount up with wings like eagles. They should run and not be weary.

00:13:26.713 --> 00:13:32.873
They should walk and not faint. A reminder that waiting on God strengthens us.

00:13:33.053 --> 00:13:38.693
It's not a passive activity, but a bold stance in trust.

00:13:39.673 --> 00:13:46.433
And in Lamentations 3, 25 through 26, it says the Lord is good to those who wait for him.

00:13:46.673 --> 00:13:55.993
To the soul who seeks him, it is good that one should wait patiently for the salvation of the Lord.

00:13:56.373 --> 00:14:00.713
The scripture calls us to wait with expectation and patience,

00:14:01.033 --> 00:14:06.493
knowing that God's timing is perfect.

00:14:07.293 --> 00:14:10.673
I know waiting feels like a grind sometimes, right?

00:14:10.973 --> 00:14:15.913
But remember this, God's delays are not his denials.

00:14:16.333 --> 00:14:20.773
And the way he's building your character, strengthening your faith,

00:14:20.973 --> 00:14:28.153
and setting you up for something beyond what you could not have imagined.

00:14:28.873 --> 00:14:33.153
So as you go through your week, position yourself like Habakkuk.

00:14:33.153 --> 00:14:40.193
Stand at your watchtower, ready for God's answer because it's coming.

00:14:40.513 --> 00:14:44.633
So let's do some interactive activities for this week here.

00:14:44.833 --> 00:14:50.633
So take a moment and ask yourself, what are you waiting for?

00:14:51.053 --> 00:14:55.493
Are you standing expectantly or are you losing hope?

00:14:55.733 --> 00:15:00.833
This week, challenge yourself to change your posture in the wait.

00:15:01.833 --> 00:15:06.853
God's answer is closer than you think.

00:15:07.873 --> 00:15:09.613
Then I want to challenge you.

00:15:10.546 --> 00:15:16.306
Yeah, got to challenge you. So I dare you this week to position yourself like Habakkuk.

00:15:16.766 --> 00:15:24.946
Spend time in prayer, expecting God's response, and watch how your perspectives shift.

00:15:25.406 --> 00:15:30.586
You know, don't leave God's presence so quickly, right?

00:15:30.886 --> 00:15:35.126
So take a moment, ask yourself, first one is what you're waiting for,

00:15:35.286 --> 00:15:37.946
and then I want you to wait in expectation.

00:15:38.726 --> 00:15:43.846
Challenge yourself to change your posture and your weight. So get excited about waiting.

00:15:44.086 --> 00:15:50.666
Wait for an answer. Then I dare you again to spend time in prayer and just expect a response.

00:15:51.206 --> 00:15:53.346
Expect to hear something from God.

00:15:53.926 --> 00:15:58.066
You know, many times if I don't hear God during my prayer time,

00:15:58.306 --> 00:16:02.046
many times I hear him in my dreams. He'll speak to me in my dreams.

00:16:02.986 --> 00:16:07.846
So he will speak to you. He will speak to you.

00:16:07.946 --> 00:16:13.606
So next time we're moving on to moving from waiting to action,

00:16:13.606 --> 00:16:17.386
because when God speaks, we need to move, right?

00:16:17.926 --> 00:16:24.346
We're diving into how to respond to God's guidance with boldness, fearless action.
