Exposing the Counterfeit Bride: Ep 13: Wise and Foolish Virgins: A Call to Be Ready
Welcome to the Diary of a Black Woman podcast with Connie Morris. In this bonus episode, Church Chronicles, Connie closes the series "Removing the Cover, Exposing a Counterfeit Bride" with a focus on the parable of the ten virgins (Matthew 25). She contrasts the wise and foolish brides — the difference being the oil representing intimacy with the Holy Spirit, readiness, and purity. Through Psalm references and practical steps (stay filled, keep hands clean, guard your heart, and stay watchful), Connie urges listeners to maintain overflowing oil and be prepared for the bridegroom's return.
Join a closing prayer and final declarations to keep lamps burning, hearts pure, and lives anchored in love for Christ as the podcast concludes with encouragement and resources to connect.

Welcome, family, to the bonus episode of the Diary of a Black Woman podcast, Church Chronicles.
00:01:00.695 --> 00:01:06.055
I'm your host, Connie Morris, and we've walked through the 12 powerful messages
00:01:06.055 --> 00:01:11.175
of the series, Removing the Cover, Exposing a Counterfeit Bride.
00:01:11.575 --> 00:01:15.995
And today's bonus episode is titled, Wise, Foolish, Versions.
00:01:16.275 --> 00:01:20.755
We touched on it last episode. We're going to touch on it a little bit more
00:01:20.755 --> 00:01:26.475
on this episode because the bridegroom is coming and we need to get ready.
00:01:26.855 --> 00:01:31.175
And so today we're going to end it with a parable, a picture, and a promise.
00:01:31.455 --> 00:01:35.675
The picture is of virgins, five wise and five foolish.
00:01:35.955 --> 00:01:44.535
The parable is their story told by Jesus in Matthew 25, and the promise is the bridegroom is coming.
00:01:44.775 --> 00:01:50.695
Matthew 25 verses 1 through 4, it says, At the time the kingdom of heaven would
00:01:50.695 --> 00:01:56.435
be like the ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom.
00:01:56.595 --> 00:02:00.155
Five of them were foolish and five were wise.
00:02:00.355 --> 00:02:04.695
The foolish ones took their lamps, but did not take any oil with them.
00:02:04.875 --> 00:02:09.495
The wise, however, took oil and jars along with their lamps.
00:02:09.675 --> 00:02:11.655
The oil is the difference.
00:02:11.875 --> 00:02:14.855
The foolish had the form, but no fire.
00:02:15.055 --> 00:02:21.215
They had lamps, but no oil, light, but no substance, religion, but no relationship.
00:02:21.575 --> 00:02:29.415
The wise had oil, intimacy, discernment, and readiness. So what we see here, we see there were 10.
00:02:30.304 --> 00:02:33.744
Versions. Five were wise, five were foolish.
00:02:33.964 --> 00:02:39.084
And right away, we see that what identified them that were different from the
00:02:39.084 --> 00:02:43.824
wise and the foolish was one was prepared, one had extra oil,
00:02:43.964 --> 00:02:45.624
and the other one didn't.
00:02:45.864 --> 00:02:50.044
You ever have friends like that? They get ready to go on a trip or a journey
00:02:50.044 --> 00:02:53.624
or whatever, but they never come fully prepared.
00:02:53.924 --> 00:02:58.064
First of all, they're late. And then second of all, we got to stop everywhere
00:02:58.064 --> 00:03:01.404
to pick up stuff that they forgot along the journey, you know?
00:03:01.584 --> 00:03:05.884
And so that's foolishness. We knew we were going on this trip about six weeks
00:03:05.884 --> 00:03:08.184
ago, but yet we're still not prepared.
00:03:08.264 --> 00:03:11.804
But the bridegroom is coming and we need to get ready.
00:03:11.984 --> 00:03:16.104
But here the Bible tells us that the wives had oil.
00:03:16.304 --> 00:03:20.344
And what does oil represent? The oil represent intimacy, discernment,
00:03:20.424 --> 00:03:25.564
and readiness. So the wise understood that the bridegroom was coming,
00:03:25.844 --> 00:03:27.444
but it might take a little while.
00:03:27.524 --> 00:03:31.824
So they prepared for the wait. Are we prepared for the wait?
00:03:32.144 --> 00:03:37.504
That Jesus is coming, but rumor has it that he's supposed to come in September.
00:03:37.504 --> 00:03:42.764
So people are packing up their stuff and they call their rapture blankets, get ready to go.
00:03:42.924 --> 00:03:47.784
Okay, but do you have discernment from the Holy One of Israel that it's that
00:03:47.784 --> 00:03:51.804
season? Or is that your excuse to escape all the stuff that's going on in the world today?
00:03:52.044 --> 00:03:55.004
Are you going to be one of the wise or are you going to be one of the foolish?
00:03:55.344 --> 00:03:59.424
So we understand that the wise had oil, the foolish had enough oil,
00:03:59.644 --> 00:04:02.964
but they didn't have enough to finish the race.
00:04:03.124 --> 00:04:08.964
So the Spirit of the Lord is asking the church today, do you have oil in your lamp?
00:04:09.164 --> 00:04:12.344
Because the oil represents the Holy Spirit.
00:04:12.644 --> 00:04:18.004
Because lamps without oil is empty religion. But oil that overflows is true
00:04:18.004 --> 00:04:22.604
relationship with the bridegroom.
00:04:22.884 --> 00:04:26.204
And that oil is not hype, not entertainment.
00:04:26.564 --> 00:04:30.804
It's not pretense. The oil is the Holy Spirit.
00:04:31.084 --> 00:04:35.264
Now listen to the beauty of the Psalms that reveal the fullness of this truth.
00:04:35.524 --> 00:04:39.984
Psalm 25 says, To anoint my head with oil, my cup overflows.
00:04:40.004 --> 00:04:45.264
So there's always a lot enough oil, right? Psalms 24, verse 3 to 4 says,
00:04:45.504 --> 00:04:50.424
Who may ascend to the mountain of the Lord? Who may stand in his holy place?
00:04:50.584 --> 00:04:57.324
The one who has clean hands and a pure heart. Who does not trust an idol or swear by a false God?
00:04:57.664 --> 00:05:03.264
Family, Psalms 23 shows the oil that overflows, intimacy with the shepherd.
00:05:03.644 --> 00:05:09.364
Psalms 24 shows us the purity required, cleans hand, clean hand and a pure heart.
00:05:09.364 --> 00:05:15.724
Together they remind us the bride must be both full and holy, anointed.
00:05:16.324 --> 00:05:19.764
And pure, ready and waiting.
00:05:20.064 --> 00:05:24.464
The cry of the bridegroom is simple. Be ready.
00:05:24.744 --> 00:05:28.144
The wise and the foolish virgin. Let's take a look at them.
00:05:28.384 --> 00:05:34.604
The parable of the 10 virgins is a mirror for the church. All 10 had lamps. All 10 were waiting.
00:05:34.824 --> 00:05:40.864
All 10 looked like bridesmaids, but only five were ready when the bridegroom came.
00:05:41.084 --> 00:05:47.184
The foolish virgin represented the counterfeit bride. Outwardly prepared, but inwardly empty.
00:05:47.404 --> 00:05:50.224
They had lamps, but no oil was available.
00:05:50.584 --> 00:05:55.644
They looked the part, but lacked the substance. They wanted the celebration
00:05:55.644 --> 00:05:57.764
without the preparation.
00:05:58.124 --> 00:06:02.964
The wise virgin represented the true bride. Inwardly filled, outwardly ready.
00:06:03.144 --> 00:06:07.864
They carry extra oil because they understood the bridegroom might delay.
00:06:08.164 --> 00:06:13.744
How do they know that? That comes through discernment. that comes through discernment.
00:06:13.964 --> 00:06:19.204
They guarded their flame, kept their lamps trimmed, and stayed watchful.
00:06:19.444 --> 00:06:24.084
The only difference between these two, what, is they didn't want to bring the extra oil.
00:06:24.464 --> 00:06:28.044
Well, there's a lot more than that, but one was prepared for the wait.
00:06:28.264 --> 00:06:29.484
Here we go. Here's the difference.
00:06:29.744 --> 00:06:36.164
The foolish borrowed faith. The wise carried their own oil. The foolish sought appearances.
00:06:36.784 --> 00:06:41.684
The wise sought intimacy. The foolish wanted light for a moment.
00:06:41.964 --> 00:06:45.184
The wise wanted fire for the midnight cry.
00:06:45.424 --> 00:06:51.584
Now bring in the psalm. Psalms 23.5 says, You anoint my head with oil. My cup overflows.
00:06:51.864 --> 00:06:57.104
This is the oil of intimacy, the overflow of God's spirit in the surrendered life.
00:06:57.384 --> 00:07:03.644
The true bride doesn't run out of oil because her cup never stops being filled.
00:07:05.196 --> 00:07:10.816
Psalms 24, 3, verses 3 and 4 asks, Who may ascend to the heel of the Lord?
00:07:10.936 --> 00:07:15.676
Who may stand in his holy place? Who has clean hands and a pure heart?
00:07:15.876 --> 00:07:22.316
This is a garment of holiness, the inward purity that makes the bride ready to meet her king.
00:07:22.496 --> 00:07:27.976
Together, Psalms 23 and Psalms 24 present a comprehensive picture of readiness.
00:07:28.236 --> 00:07:35.836
The bride with oil that overflows and a pure heart. The counterfeit bride has neither.
00:07:36.076 --> 00:07:40.276
Family, Jesus told this parable for one reason, to wake us up.
00:07:40.416 --> 00:07:46.556
The midnight cry is coming, and when it comes, only those with oil will be ready.
00:07:46.736 --> 00:07:50.256
Where is my bride? The bridegroom cries out.
00:07:50.456 --> 00:07:54.776
Where is my bride who keeps her lamps burning with oil that overflows?
00:07:55.076 --> 00:08:00.256
Where is my bride whose hands are clean and whose heart is pure?
00:08:00.256 --> 00:08:05.056
Where is my bride, who will not slumber at the midnight hour,
00:08:05.156 --> 00:08:07.736
but stay awake, ready for my return?
00:08:07.936 --> 00:08:13.556
Matthew 25 says, But while they were in, while they were on their way to buy
00:08:13.556 --> 00:08:16.176
the oil, the bridegroom arrived.
00:08:16.376 --> 00:08:23.156
The virgins who were ready went in with him to the wedding banquet, and the door was closed.
00:08:23.576 --> 00:08:29.256
Psalms 23, verse 5 declares, You anoint my head with oil, my cup overflows.
00:08:29.256 --> 00:08:35.776
Psalm 24 answers, who ascends to the mountain of the Lord, who may stand at
00:08:35.776 --> 00:08:39.796
his holy place, the one who has clean hands and a pure heart.
00:08:39.956 --> 00:08:44.276
My bride is not the one who borrows faith at the last minute.
00:08:44.476 --> 00:08:50.016
My bride is not the one who pretends to be with lamps that have no flame.
00:08:50.296 --> 00:08:53.616
My bride is not the one distracted by the world.
00:08:53.990 --> 00:08:59.010
When the cry is heard. Where is my bride? The one with oil in her lamp,
00:08:59.350 --> 00:09:06.510
fire in her heart, clean hands lifted up, and life clothed in righteousness.
00:09:06.830 --> 00:09:10.630
The one who says, even so, come Lord Jesus.
00:09:10.950 --> 00:09:15.750
Where is my bride? Living ready for the bridegroom.
00:09:15.990 --> 00:09:19.610
Family, the parable of the virgin is not just a story, it's a warning.
00:09:19.910 --> 00:09:24.670
The midnight cry is coming, and when it comes, there'll be no time to buy oil.
00:09:24.830 --> 00:09:27.670
Either you are ready or you are not.
00:09:27.890 --> 00:09:32.030
Here is how we live as wise and not the foolish.
00:09:32.390 --> 00:09:38.770
Number one, keep your oil full. The oil represents the Holy Spirit and intimacy with God.
00:09:39.150 --> 00:09:46.030
Stay filled by prayer, worship, and time in his word. Don't wait for a crisis to seek him.
00:09:46.450 --> 00:09:50.850
Stay full every day. Number two, keep your hands clean.
00:09:51.070 --> 00:09:57.330
Psalm 24 reminds us only those with clean hands and a pure heart can ascend his heel.
00:09:57.730 --> 00:10:00.030
Repent quickly, forgive freely,
00:10:00.070 --> 00:10:05.290
and walk in holiness. The bridegroom is coming for a spotless bride.
00:10:05.870 --> 00:10:11.350
Number three, keep your heart pure. Guard your affections. Don't let love for
00:10:11.350 --> 00:10:13.690
the world cool your love for Christ.
00:10:13.950 --> 00:10:17.550
Return to your first love daily.
00:10:17.770 --> 00:10:22.710
The wise virgins are ready because their hearts belong fully to the bridegroom.
00:10:22.950 --> 00:10:28.030
And number four, stay watchful. Matthew 25 ends with this warning.
00:10:28.270 --> 00:10:31.990
Therefore, keep watch because you do not know the day
00:10:32.403 --> 00:10:36.383
or the hour. Stay awake spiritually. Pay attention.
00:10:36.683 --> 00:10:42.843
Don't let distraction lull you to sleep. The foolish virgin looked apart but weren't prepared.
00:10:43.083 --> 00:10:48.383
The wise virgin carried oil that overflowed pure hearts, lamps that stayed lit.
00:10:48.743 --> 00:10:51.703
That's the bride the bridegroom is coming for.
00:10:51.963 --> 00:10:57.443
The question is simple. Will you be ready when the midnight cry sounds?
00:10:57.883 --> 00:11:01.723
Let's pray. Father, we thank you for the warning of your word.
00:11:01.863 --> 00:11:05.483
Forgive us for every time we let your lamps grow dim.
00:11:05.723 --> 00:11:10.383
For every season we neglected the oil of intimacy. For every distraction that
00:11:10.383 --> 00:11:14.503
pulled our hearts away from you. Lord, bring us back to first law.
00:11:14.803 --> 00:11:17.763
Fill our lamps again with the oil of your spirit.
00:11:18.143 --> 00:11:23.263
Keep us burning until the bridegroom comes. Lord, give us clean hands and a pure heart.
00:11:23.523 --> 00:11:27.583
Teach us to walk in holiness, to value your presence above all else,
00:11:27.583 --> 00:11:30.243
to remain awake and watchful in this hour.
00:11:30.463 --> 00:11:34.683
May we be counted among the wise, prepared for the midnight glory.
00:11:34.943 --> 00:11:38.003
And now we speak this decree, these decrees.
00:11:38.223 --> 00:11:43.183
We decree our lamp will not go out. It will burn with the oil of the Holy Spirit.
00:11:43.443 --> 00:11:47.543
We decree our heart will remain pure and our hands clean before the Lord.
00:11:47.743 --> 00:11:53.223
We decree we will be watchful, sober, and ready for the bridegroom's return.
00:11:53.943 --> 00:11:58.763
Ready for the bridegroom's return, we decree that the true bride of Christ will
00:11:58.763 --> 00:12:05.423
rise with overflowing oil, shining light, and unwavering devotion in the mighty name of Jesus.
00:12:05.723 --> 00:12:10.523
Father, we thank you. Thank you for the warning. Thank you for this devotional.
00:12:10.903 --> 00:12:14.083
Thank you for the anointing on this devotional that will pierce the hearts of
00:12:14.083 --> 00:12:17.063
the people who hear it, who read it, who listen to it.
00:12:17.223 --> 00:12:21.503
Thank you that we'll keep our oil full, our hands clean, and our hearts pure.
00:12:22.077 --> 00:12:26.777
That we will stay watchful, that we will be ready for that midnight cry,
00:12:27.157 --> 00:12:32.417
that midnight sound, that midnight trumpet sound. In Jesus' name, amen.
00:12:32.637 --> 00:12:37.137
So we walked together through a journey of uncovering the counterfeit bride,
00:12:37.517 --> 00:12:41.057
hearing the cry of the bridegroom, where is my bride?
00:12:41.277 --> 00:12:45.277
And today we close with this final call, be ready.
00:12:45.597 --> 00:12:50.957
The wise virgin carried oil that overflowed, their lamps trimmed and burning,
00:12:51.157 --> 00:12:53.517
their hearts pure, their hands clean.
00:12:53.897 --> 00:12:57.437
The foolish looked the part but lacked the substance.
00:12:57.857 --> 00:13:02.417
When the midnight cry sounded, the wise entered and the door was shut.
00:13:02.997 --> 00:13:08.737
Psalms 23 reminded us that the shepherd anoints our heads with oil until the cup overflows.
00:13:09.177 --> 00:13:14.557
It just reminded me that God gives us enough. Our oil should never run dry because
00:13:14.557 --> 00:13:21.257
here we see that he anoints us until our cups overflow, so we should never be without oil.
00:13:21.437 --> 00:13:27.617
Psalm 24 reminds us that only those with clean hands and a pure heart may stand in his holy place.
00:13:27.937 --> 00:13:32.357
Together they declare the bridegroom's requirement, intimacy and purity,
00:13:32.797 --> 00:13:35.817
fullness and holiness, readiness and devotion.
00:13:36.057 --> 00:13:40.157
This is the bride he's coming for, a bride filled, faithful,
00:13:40.297 --> 00:13:43.397
and prepared. So I'll leave you with this final charge.
00:13:43.797 --> 00:13:46.097
Guard your oil. Keep your lamp burning.
00:13:46.517 --> 00:13:51.417
Walk in holiness. Stay watchful. And above all, keep your heart anchored in
00:13:51.417 --> 00:13:53.097
love for your bridegroom.
00:13:53.337 --> 00:13:59.137
Because the midnight cry is near. The spirit and the bride still say, come.
00:13:59.357 --> 00:14:03.337

We'd love to hear from you, how this impacted your life.
00:14:26.498 --> 00:14:29.418
This is your host, Connie Morris, signing off this series with love,
00:14:29.598 --> 00:14:30.918
strength, and a touch of class.
00:14:31.278 --> 00:14:35.938
And with our last declaration, even so, come, Lord Jesus.
00:14:36.178 --> 00:14:41.278
We are ready and we are waiting. I'll see you on the next episode.
00:14:41.658 --> 00:14:44.718
Bye-bye. Thank you for listening to this episode.
00:14:44.918 --> 00:14:52.538
And before we close out, I want to speak a word of promise over you from Jeremiah 29, 11 through 14.
00:14:52.958 --> 00:14:58.358
Father God, you declared, I know the plans I have for you, plans to prosper
00:14:58.358 --> 00:15:02.858
you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
00:15:03.178 --> 00:15:07.578
So today we received that truth. You said when we call on you,
00:15:07.738 --> 00:15:12.878
you will listen. So we pray. You said that when we seek you with our hearts,
00:15:12.878 --> 00:15:15.318
you will be found, so we pursue.
00:15:15.538 --> 00:15:21.238
You said you will restore us from captivity, so we declare freedom over every
00:15:21.238 --> 00:15:25.278
place where our listeners feel stuck, silenced, or small.
00:15:25.598 --> 00:15:31.358
Thank you for always drawing near when we show up in faith. In Jesus' name, amen.
00:15:32.080 --> 00:15:41.847
Music.
