Welcome back to the Diary of the Black Woman podcast.
00:00:04.777 --> 00:00:11.977
We're on our episode two of Breaking the Deceit, Walking in Spiritual Vigilance,
00:00:12.937 --> 00:00:18.297
the Desire for Truth in God's Will, according to 1 Timothy 2.4.
00:00:18.837 --> 00:00:22.117
So welcome to the Diary of the Black Woman podcast, where faith,
00:00:22.577 --> 00:00:24.437
culture, and life intersect.
00:00:24.857 --> 00:00:29.877
I'm your host, Connie Morris, and today we're continuing our exploration of God's word.
00:00:30.017 --> 00:00:35.637
Focusing on the deep connection between truth and God's will for our lives.
00:00:35.837 --> 00:00:41.977
This episode is titled The Desire for Truth in God's Will, and we'll look closely
00:00:41.977 --> 00:00:47.957
at 1 Timothy 2.4, a verse that will reveal God's heart for all humanity.
00:00:48.937 --> 00:00:54.617
Deception often pulls us away from God's will, but the Bible tells us that God's
00:00:54.617 --> 00:00:59.617
desires all people to be saved and come into the knowledge of the truth.
00:01:00.017 --> 00:01:05.837
Today, we'll reflect on how seeking truth aligns us with God's will and how
00:01:05.837 --> 00:01:09.977
we can actively pursue truth in our daily lives.
00:01:10.357 --> 00:01:16.497
Heavenly Father, we thank you for your word and for revealing your will to us
00:01:16.497 --> 00:01:17.537
through the scriptures.
00:01:17.977 --> 00:01:23.817
As we explore the desire you have for us to know the truth and be saved,
00:01:23.817 --> 00:01:25.837
we ask for your guidance.
00:01:26.777 --> 00:01:32.017
Open our hearts to receive your truth and help us to align our lives with your
00:01:32.017 --> 00:01:34.637
will. In Jesus name, amen.
00:01:35.157 --> 00:01:41.397
We see here that God desires that all men come into the knowledge of the truth, right?
00:01:41.617 --> 00:01:50.237
And so we don't have to walk in deceit because there's a force that wants us to have the truth.
00:01:50.517 --> 00:01:54.357
And so let's go to 1 Timothy 2, 4.
00:01:54.357 --> 00:02:00.757
And so we're going to begin reading in 1 Timothy 2, 4, which says that God desires
00:02:00.757 --> 00:02:06.017
all people to be saved and come into the knowledge of the truth.
00:02:06.537 --> 00:02:12.357
So deception is an option here, right? So God desires us to walk in truth.
00:02:12.477 --> 00:02:16.237
I mean, there's a lie in the shadows of the darkness.
00:02:16.737 --> 00:02:20.417
So this verse reveals two important things about God's will.
00:02:20.417 --> 00:02:26.437
He wants everyone to be saved, and he wants us to live in truth.
00:02:27.057 --> 00:02:34.697
In a world where deception is everywhere, knowing and living by truth can be challenging.
00:02:35.177 --> 00:02:42.177
But God's will is clear. He desires us to embrace the truth that leads to salvation.
00:02:42.177 --> 00:02:49.357
So today we'll explore how this truth stands in contrast to the deception we
00:02:49.357 --> 00:02:50.777
explored in chapter three.
00:02:51.613 --> 00:02:56.913
During our last episode. The connection between truth and salvation.
00:02:57.173 --> 00:03:03.973
The first part of 1 Timothy 2.4 shows us that God desires all people to be saved.
00:03:04.553 --> 00:03:10.013
Salvation and truth are deeply connected because to be saved,
00:03:10.013 --> 00:03:15.213
we must first acknowledge and accept the truth about who God is and what he
00:03:15.213 --> 00:03:17.013
has done for us through Jesus.
00:03:17.393 --> 00:03:23.873
In contrast to the deception in the Garden of Eden, where Adam and Eve were
00:03:23.873 --> 00:03:25.913
led away from God's truth,
00:03:26.653 --> 00:03:33.793
1 Timothy 2.4 shows us that God's desire is to bring us back into the light of his truth.
00:03:34.573 --> 00:03:40.013
Deception leads us away from God, while truth leads us closer to him.
00:03:40.413 --> 00:03:45.553
Think about how the enemy uses deception to separate us from God's will.
00:03:46.113 --> 00:03:52.213
What lies have you believed that kept you from fully embracing God's truth?
00:03:52.773 --> 00:03:57.073
Have there been moments where you felt distant from God because you believe
00:03:57.073 --> 00:04:00.893
something that wasn't aligned with his word?
00:04:01.353 --> 00:04:05.533
A lot of times I believe that happens when we don't know the word of God.
00:04:05.713 --> 00:04:10.733
We're listening to podcasts. There's nothing wrong with listening to a podcast,
00:04:11.073 --> 00:04:15.853
but when the podcaster tell you to pull out your Bible, you pull out your Bible
00:04:15.853 --> 00:04:18.173
and you compare it to what they're saying.
00:04:18.173 --> 00:04:21.853
If it's not matching up, then you might want to not listen.
00:04:22.013 --> 00:04:25.533
You want to have a balance in your life. It's good to listen,
00:04:25.693 --> 00:04:28.873
but also good to have your own personal Bible time.
00:04:30.350 --> 00:04:35.250
Reading your Bible and praying and getting to know the word of God for yourself,
00:04:35.570 --> 00:04:40.210
both the word and also knowing the small voice.
00:04:41.090 --> 00:04:46.190
So think about how the enemy uses deception to separate us from God's word.
00:04:47.470 --> 00:04:51.890
You see how quick Eve, did Eve know the truth? That's a question,
00:04:52.010 --> 00:04:55.090
right? I believe she did, but did she know the whole truth?
00:04:55.370 --> 00:05:02.270
Did she know what that danger would cost her? So what lies have kept you from
00:05:02.270 --> 00:05:04.590
fully embracing God's truth?
00:05:05.330 --> 00:05:10.730
Have there been moments where you felt distant from God because something that
00:05:10.730 --> 00:05:12.550
wasn't aligned with his word?
00:05:13.250 --> 00:05:18.930
So ask God to reveal any areas of deception in your life and to help you replace
00:05:18.930 --> 00:05:20.710
those lies with his truth.
00:05:21.490 --> 00:05:27.950
Remember, knowing God's truth is critical to understanding his will for your lie.
00:05:28.730 --> 00:05:35.970
So point one is connection between truth and salvation. Knowing God's will is knowing God's truth.
00:05:36.890 --> 00:05:43.110
Number two, actively seek the truth. You know, God doesn't want us to know about him.
00:05:43.250 --> 00:05:48.290
He wants us to come to a full knowledge of the truth. Now, you know how you say, I know him.
00:05:48.870 --> 00:05:53.210
God wants us to really know him, not just like a first name.
00:05:53.270 --> 00:05:56.050
He wants us to know his last name, his middle name, his acts.
00:05:56.150 --> 00:05:58.870
He wants us to know him personally, intimately.
00:05:59.110 --> 00:06:05.010
So this means more than just intellectual understanding about deep personal
00:06:05.010 --> 00:06:07.650
knowledge that transforms the way we live.
00:06:08.393 --> 00:06:11.813
It's not enough to hear the truth. We must actively seek it,
00:06:11.953 --> 00:06:13.553
pursue it, and live by it.
00:06:13.633 --> 00:06:19.513
So not just be just a reader of the word, but actually seek him and want to
00:06:19.513 --> 00:06:21.593
know him more intimately, right?
00:06:21.853 --> 00:06:26.593
So this means more than just intellectual knowledge. You ever have met someone
00:06:26.593 --> 00:06:31.533
who knows the scripture, but his life is a hot mess or her life is a hot mess?
00:06:32.033 --> 00:06:35.593
And then you know someone who only maybe know a couple words out of the Bible,
00:06:35.593 --> 00:06:42.193
but they living that word to the empty degree and walking in all the things that they need.
00:06:42.353 --> 00:06:48.533
They got a handful of scriptures memorized, but they know God in an intimate way.
00:06:49.073 --> 00:06:53.953
In a world filled with distractions, how do we pursue God's truth?
00:06:54.373 --> 00:07:00.953
It requires intentionality, setting aside time to read the Bible,
00:07:01.373 --> 00:07:05.153
pray, and seek spiritual guidance. I'm going to repeat that.
00:07:05.393 --> 00:07:11.093
It requires intentionality. Just like you set an appointment to go to your doctor,
00:07:11.353 --> 00:07:15.193
you set appointment to maybe you got date night with your husband,
00:07:15.593 --> 00:07:19.033
you got dinner's appointment, you got all these appointments we set time with.
00:07:19.233 --> 00:07:25.153
You have to set that time away to read your Bible, to pray, and to seek spiritual guidance.
00:07:25.513 --> 00:07:30.613
Just as Eve was deceived because she allowed doubt to creep in,
00:07:30.813 --> 00:07:38.773
we too can be led astray if we are not intentionally intentional about pursuing God's truth.
00:07:39.353 --> 00:07:43.973
How do you be intentional about pursuing God's truth?
00:07:44.073 --> 00:07:49.473
Sometimes we think this is so basic, but if it's so basic, Why does it keep
00:07:49.473 --> 00:07:54.013
reoccurring in a lot of my devotionals, right? Must not be that basic.
00:07:54.593 --> 00:08:00.373
We get so busy about life that we forget that it requires intentionality.
00:08:01.113 --> 00:08:05.093
Number one, study the Bible. Study the Word of God regularly.
00:08:05.633 --> 00:08:12.453
The more familiar you are with His Word, the easier it will be to recognize and reject deception.
00:08:13.723 --> 00:08:19.523
Prayer for discernment. Ask God daily for discernment to distinguish between
00:08:19.523 --> 00:08:25.523
truth and lies, especially in situations where you may feel confused or uncertain.
00:08:25.963 --> 00:08:30.563
God will lead you the right way. Lord, I don't know what to do. Which way do I go?
00:08:31.303 --> 00:08:37.143
Seek Godly counsel. Surround yourself with people who are rooted in God's word
00:08:37.143 --> 00:08:44.603
and God's truth and can offer guidance and support when faced spiritual challenges.
00:08:44.903 --> 00:08:49.443
Those are the people that can go directly to the word of God and give you that
00:08:49.443 --> 00:08:53.643
spiritual support, that godly wisdom, right?
00:08:53.803 --> 00:08:58.983
And so study the Bible, pray for discernment, and seek godly counsel.
00:08:59.643 --> 00:09:03.403
So you want to always be actively seeking the truth.
00:09:04.223 --> 00:09:09.903
Number three, the role of truth is aligning with God's will.
00:09:10.343 --> 00:09:16.903
Knowing the truth not only leads us to salvation, but it also helps us align
00:09:16.903 --> 00:09:18.963
our lives with God's will.
00:09:19.523 --> 00:09:25.263
His will is that we live in a way that reflects his love, grace, and righteousness.
00:09:25.263 --> 00:09:31.383
But we can't do this if we're caught up in lies or misconceptions about who
00:09:31.383 --> 00:09:36.183
God is and what he desires for us. Isn't that interesting?
00:09:36.883 --> 00:09:41.343
Like, how do we know who we are if we don't really know who God is?
00:09:41.803 --> 00:09:47.583
So think about how God's truth has the power to set us free from deception.
00:09:48.503 --> 00:09:55.343
Jesus said in John 8.32, verse 8.30, John chapter 8, verse 32,
00:09:55.763 --> 00:09:59.503
then you will know the truth and the truth will set you free.
00:09:59.763 --> 00:10:03.103
This freedom is part of God's will for our lives.
00:10:03.303 --> 00:10:11.023
Freedom from sin, guilt, shame, and anything that holds us back from living fully for him.
00:10:11.950 --> 00:10:14.990
So you want to commit to aligning with God's will.
00:10:15.350 --> 00:10:19.710
Make a conscious decision to live in alignment with God's will,
00:10:20.030 --> 00:10:23.710
knowing that his will is always based on truth.
00:10:24.170 --> 00:10:29.370
Reflect on any areas of your life that might not fully align with God's truth
00:10:29.370 --> 00:10:33.070
and pray for his guidance to make necessary changes.
00:10:33.430 --> 00:10:36.170
There's some scriptures I think is in Proverbs.
00:10:36.570 --> 00:10:40.630
Even you can probably Google it. It says the things God hates.
00:10:40.630 --> 00:10:47.050
So you can go right to that and find out the things God hates and don't do that.
00:10:47.750 --> 00:10:52.670
That'd be a first step. So you want to commit to aligning your life with God's
00:10:52.670 --> 00:10:57.010
will and so avoiding the things that God hates.
00:10:57.070 --> 00:11:04.330
I might have a devotional on that one, but I want to stay focused on deception, avoiding the deceit.
00:11:04.690 --> 00:11:10.210
Number four, you want to guarding against deception. In a world that often blurs
00:11:10.210 --> 00:11:16.410
the lines between truth and lies, guarding ourselves against deception is essential.
00:11:17.410 --> 00:11:21.210
God's will is for us to come into the knowledge of the truth.
00:11:21.590 --> 00:11:25.490
It says, it's God's will for us to come into the knowledge.
00:11:25.690 --> 00:11:30.010
That means it's not going to automatically just fall into your lap.
00:11:30.450 --> 00:11:33.710
You're going to have to come into the knowledge. What does that mean?
00:11:34.130 --> 00:11:40.310
You have to do some work. but the enemy will always try and lead us astray.
00:11:40.770 --> 00:11:48.350
So God is that we all come into the knowledge of the truth. That sounds like we need to do some work.
00:11:49.250 --> 00:11:54.530
And a lot of times we, can I just be real? We want a shortcut to it.
00:11:54.970 --> 00:11:58.410
We have to come into the knowledge of the truth. So a lot of times,
00:11:58.670 --> 00:12:03.630
like my devotionals, I have now got about 152 devotionals.
00:12:03.670 --> 00:12:10.310
I started out just one at a time. And it's just, what is God talking to me about at that moment?
00:12:10.890 --> 00:12:15.550
And I'm like, whoa. And then I'm digging into the knowledge of the truth.
00:12:15.970 --> 00:12:21.910
I want to know more about this topic. It could be just one topic that he mentions to me.
00:12:21.970 --> 00:12:24.490
And I'm just digging into the knowledge.
00:12:24.870 --> 00:12:30.090
Deception was at this time that I wrote this devotional about being deceived.
00:12:30.690 --> 00:12:35.430
Being deceived. How do you guard against deception? I'm going to read that again.
00:12:35.990 --> 00:12:40.030
Number four, it says, guarding against deception. In a world that often blurs
00:12:40.030 --> 00:12:46.770
the line between truth and lies, guarding ourselves against deception is essential.
00:12:47.550 --> 00:12:53.030
God's will for us is to come into the knowledge.
00:12:53.170 --> 00:12:59.810
The Bible says, come to the knowledge of the truth, but the enemy will always try to lead us astray.
00:13:00.110 --> 00:13:03.070
But how many know that truth is stronger than a lie?
00:13:03.974 --> 00:13:08.194
When you come into the truth, you got like this warrior mentality,
00:13:08.194 --> 00:13:10.554
and it defeats the lie every time.
00:13:10.714 --> 00:13:16.634
But if you wimpy on your truth, the lie always wins out because you don't know
00:13:16.634 --> 00:13:22.014
what to believe, right? So God's desire is that you come into the knowledge of the truth.
00:13:22.194 --> 00:13:25.294
I mean, you got to work for it. You have to do your research.
00:13:25.874 --> 00:13:29.634
I just told you one thing you can do right away is what does God hate?
00:13:29.774 --> 00:13:33.794
And start listing those things and start doing a little research on what God's
00:13:33.794 --> 00:13:38.914
hate and then start putting things in categories. Are you doing some things that God hates?
00:13:39.174 --> 00:13:43.574
Right? Because when you're doing things that God hates, then that truth ain't in you, right?
00:13:43.734 --> 00:13:47.854
Come on now. And so you had to clear out those things that God hates so that
00:13:47.854 --> 00:13:51.214
he can put some truth into you. Like, okay, I can't do that anymore.
00:13:51.474 --> 00:13:54.374
What's the opposite of what he hates? What does he love?
00:13:55.014 --> 00:14:00.214
And then now you open yourself up to some truth so that you won't be deceived.
00:14:00.914 --> 00:14:04.854
What are some modern day deceptions that you've encountered?
00:14:05.174 --> 00:14:10.034
Dang, that's a good one. That's going to help you understand what deceptions
00:14:10.034 --> 00:14:15.674
that you might have encountered so that you can open, begin to come into the
00:14:15.674 --> 00:14:18.974
knowledge of the truth so that you do not fall into deception.
00:14:19.314 --> 00:14:25.394
These could be cultural messages, media influences, or even personal relationships
00:14:25.394 --> 00:14:33.494
that have led you to doubt God's truth. How do you come into the knowledge? Two ways.
00:14:33.894 --> 00:14:36.854
Number one, you want to test everything against scripture.
00:14:37.134 --> 00:14:42.274
When you encounter new ideas, beliefs, always test them against the Bible.
00:14:42.874 --> 00:14:46.234
God's word is the ultimate standard of truth.
00:14:46.854 --> 00:14:52.434
Be vigilant. Stay spiritually vigilant. Pray for discernment and wisdom.
00:14:52.614 --> 00:14:57.474
And be mindful of what you allow to influence your thoughts and beliefs.
00:14:57.734 --> 00:15:02.174
And so when you're vigilant, if you test everything against scripture,
00:15:02.454 --> 00:15:05.534
that's kind of like you're putting on your armor of God, right?
00:15:05.774 --> 00:15:09.974
God's saying, okay, that's not truth. That's not truth. So it's going to kind
00:15:09.974 --> 00:15:12.834
of boomerang off for you. But then you have to be vigilant.
00:15:13.014 --> 00:15:19.594
What happened if you don't know? It's like you're asking God for discernment and wisdom.
00:15:19.874 --> 00:15:24.994
And you'll be surprised that the stuff that you may have thought was true was false.
00:15:25.794 --> 00:15:31.414
Let it go. Don't hold on to it. So be mindful what you allow,
00:15:31.514 --> 00:15:33.094
influence your thoughts and belief.
00:15:33.434 --> 00:15:37.054
Because you're going to find out the more you are exposed to truth,
00:15:38.154 --> 00:15:42.394
the further away you're going to start finding that your friends,
00:15:42.394 --> 00:15:46.634
and you're going to find out how close you and your friends are.
00:15:46.774 --> 00:15:48.494
And you're going to say, whoa, you will still believe that?
00:15:48.674 --> 00:15:53.534
And the Bible says this. And so that's old fashioned. You'll start to find out,
00:15:54.675 --> 00:15:59.175
where your foundation really lies. Is it with your friends or is it going to be with God?
00:15:59.395 --> 00:16:04.055
So when the rubber meets the road, you want to always test everything against
00:16:04.055 --> 00:16:06.055
scripture and you want to be vigilant.
00:16:06.515 --> 00:16:12.875
And when you pray for discernment and wisdom, trust that the Holy Spirit is
00:16:12.875 --> 00:16:15.675
going to lead you in the right way.
00:16:16.315 --> 00:16:20.695
Even when you don't want to go, he's going to tell you the truth.
00:16:21.495 --> 00:16:27.275
And let's do this decree. I decree that I am, oh, don't say it if you don't believe it.
00:16:27.455 --> 00:16:30.415
Because once you speak it out your mouth, you're going to be like,
00:16:30.555 --> 00:16:31.595
I didn't know, I didn't know.
00:16:31.895 --> 00:16:35.775
Because once you allow a little truth in, because think about it,
00:16:35.955 --> 00:16:41.115
when you know one part of a story is a lie, don't you doubt the rest of the story?
00:16:41.635 --> 00:16:44.795
I don't know about you. I'm just a retired cop.
00:16:44.935 --> 00:16:50.095
If someone tells me a half truth, then I have a hard time believing in the rest of the truth, right?
00:16:50.175 --> 00:16:56.135
I'd be like, now you got to make me believe the rest of your story because that part doesn't match.
00:16:56.275 --> 00:16:58.535
You got to make me believe the rest of the story.
00:16:58.735 --> 00:17:00.735
And so the credibility is shot.
00:17:00.995 --> 00:17:06.735
And so once you know the truth, all lies don't have any, they should not even
00:17:06.735 --> 00:17:09.575
phase you after that because you're going after truth.
00:17:09.975 --> 00:17:14.355
So let's do this decree on embracing truth. I'll say it twice.
00:17:14.615 --> 00:17:21.735
First time, I decree that I am committed to seeking, embracing,
00:17:21.735 --> 00:17:23.835
and spreading the truth of God.
00:17:24.075 --> 00:17:30.655
I will actively align my life with God's will and pursue his truth above all else.
00:17:30.815 --> 00:17:38.655
I reject any lies or deceptions that seek to lead me away from God's plan for my life.
00:17:39.497 --> 00:17:43.657
Let's do it the second time. Let's say it with some meaning because once you
00:17:43.657 --> 00:17:46.997
speak truth out there, all you're going to get is truth, right?
00:17:47.137 --> 00:17:51.737
But be ready for the lies that come bombard you, but be ready to say, no, I commit.
00:17:51.917 --> 00:17:56.377
Let's do it. I decree that I am committed to seeking, embracing,
00:17:56.397 --> 00:17:58.437
and spreading the truth of God.
00:17:59.657 --> 00:18:05.337
I am actively aligning my life with God's will and pursue his truth above all else.
00:18:06.817 --> 00:18:12.717
I reject any lies or deception that seeks to lead me away from God's plan for my life.
00:18:14.237 --> 00:18:19.097
By speaking this decree, you declare that you are choosing to live in the light
00:18:19.097 --> 00:18:23.077
of God's truth and aligning yourself with his will for your life.
00:18:23.537 --> 00:18:26.737
Say amen to that. Let's close this out in prayer.
00:18:27.077 --> 00:18:31.577
Father, we thank you for your desire for us to know the truth and for the freedom
00:18:31.577 --> 00:18:36.857
that it brings. Help us to seek your truth with all our hearts and guide us
00:18:36.857 --> 00:18:39.097
as we align our lives with your will.
00:18:39.517 --> 00:18:46.177
Protect us from deception and give us the discernment to recognize the lies of the enemy.
00:18:46.537 --> 00:18:51.777
We commit to walking in your truth every day. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
00:18:52.657 --> 00:18:58.017
So thank you for joining me today on the Diary of the Black Woman podcast with
00:18:58.017 --> 00:19:02.617

00:19:02.617 --> 00:19:04.697
truth and align your life with his will.

00:19:10.857 --> 00:19:15.757

Until then, may God's truth continue to guide you and protect you.
