00:00:00.017 --> 00:00:04.257
Hello, and welcome back to Diary of a Black Woman podcast.
00:00:04.977 --> 00:00:11.237
I'm your host, Connie Morris, and we are on episode three, when the sanctuary becomes a stage.
00:00:11.697 --> 00:00:19.997
The sanctuary was never meant to be a stage, but we traded altars for platforms, holiness for hype,
00:00:21.257 --> 00:00:27.537
conviction for crowd approval, and now God is calling us to tear it all down
00:00:27.537 --> 00:00:29.597
and rebuild what's sacred.
00:00:30.017 --> 00:00:34.337
So welcome to Faith on the Go with Diary of a Black Woman podcast.
00:00:34.817 --> 00:00:40.117
I'm your host, Connie Morris. And this is episode three of the Curse of Familiarity
00:00:40.117 --> 00:00:44.297
series, When the Sanctuary Becomes a Stage.
00:00:45.437 --> 00:00:49.137
I'm going to open this up with prayer like we always do. You should know this
00:00:49.137 --> 00:00:51.657
prayer by heart. So pray it with me.
00:00:52.097 --> 00:00:55.297
God, have your hand as the prayer of your best.
00:00:55.537 --> 00:01:02.457
God, thank you for your hand that is upon us. Our territory is expanding. We are kept from harm.
00:01:02.937 --> 00:01:06.037
Our prayers are heard and they will be answered.
00:01:06.497 --> 00:01:12.177
Here we rise from pain, walk in truth, and return to deep intimacy with God,
00:01:12.737 --> 00:01:17.677
healed, empowered, and walking boldly in divine purpose.
00:01:18.337 --> 00:01:25.877
So let's do it. So we want revival. The modern church has lost its fear, right? Fear of the Lord.
00:01:26.217 --> 00:01:30.177
I think we got real casual with the Lord. And so I think he wants us to get
00:01:30.177 --> 00:01:36.297
back, not fear him as being afraid, but fear him as reverence him, right?
00:01:36.457 --> 00:01:40.437
Because he wants to do great and mighty things in our lives,
00:01:40.557 --> 00:01:44.197
like the acts church did. I want that, don't you?
00:01:44.997 --> 00:01:48.837
And so we want the revival, but we don't want repentance.
00:01:49.177 --> 00:01:54.557
We want his presence, but we've made room for performance instead.
00:01:54.557 --> 00:02:01.657
The sanctuary has become a place of present instead of a place to prostrate.
00:02:02.077 --> 00:02:07.577
It's not always about fog machines and used to add skinny jeans and flashing lights.
00:02:07.777 --> 00:02:14.737
It's about hearts that speak applause, that seek applause before more than approval.
00:02:14.937 --> 00:02:18.137
It's about hearts that seek applause more than approval.
00:02:18.797 --> 00:02:24.857
We've become familiar with the platform, with the pulpit, with the power of God.
00:02:25.117 --> 00:02:29.217
And now he's shaking the house. Isn't that powerful?
00:02:30.717 --> 00:02:36.437
We want the applause of man instead of the approval of God. And God says,
00:02:36.577 --> 00:02:38.537
I'm going to shake you loose from all that.
00:02:38.917 --> 00:02:42.497
And, you know, how does he do that? With his presence.
00:02:43.538 --> 00:02:47.538
So let's give some examples of how he does this.
00:02:47.838 --> 00:02:51.618
So we're going to go once again to Eli.
00:02:51.938 --> 00:02:57.258
And this is something that's been strong here. It says, Eli and the house of irreverence.
00:02:57.538 --> 00:03:04.718
And it's in 1 Samuel 2, 12-17, and then verses 27-36.
00:03:04.938 --> 00:03:11.898
It's also in 1 Samuel 4, 10-11. We see here that this version says,
00:03:12.238 --> 00:03:13.798
Eli's sons were scoundrels.
00:03:14.158 --> 00:03:20.258
They had no regard for the Lord. They treated the Lord's offering with contempt.
00:03:20.578 --> 00:03:23.858
Those are some bad words there. Scoundrels and contempt.
00:03:24.618 --> 00:03:27.718
Eli's sons were priests. We heard that in the first episode,
00:03:28.018 --> 00:03:29.918
ministering in the tabernacles.
00:03:30.118 --> 00:03:36.618
But they stole offerings, slept with women, and dishonored the altar.
00:03:37.538 --> 00:03:41.478
And Eli, their father, the high priest, refused to stop them.
00:03:41.678 --> 00:03:45.658
That's interesting, right? So you have a father who's the high priest,
00:03:45.798 --> 00:03:52.358
who sees their sons going astray, but refused to even remove them from that position.
00:03:52.918 --> 00:03:59.858
So why do you honor your sons more than me, says the Lord in 1 Samuel 2, chapter 2, verse 29.
00:04:00.298 --> 00:04:07.838
And God warned them, and they didn't listen. and the ark of God was captured and Eli's sons died.
00:04:08.238 --> 00:04:11.718
The glory departed because the reverence had died.
00:04:12.118 --> 00:04:16.578
This wasn't the world. This wasn't inside.
00:04:16.838 --> 00:04:20.718
This was the world and this was inside the sanctuary.
00:04:21.058 --> 00:04:23.418
Let's take a moment here and break down some of these words.
00:04:24.358 --> 00:04:29.238
When we talk about the word scoundrel, it's a Hebrew word and I can't even try
00:04:29.238 --> 00:04:36.358
to even spell it, but it's Beliah, which is interesting because we know Satan is called Beliah.
00:04:36.578 --> 00:04:43.778
But the meaning is it means worthless men or sons of worthlessness. So, worthlessness.
00:04:44.238 --> 00:04:49.598
So, when God calls you a scoundrel, God says you are worthless.
00:04:50.658 --> 00:04:57.238
Those with no fear of God, no moral compass, and no reverence for sacred things.
00:04:57.858 --> 00:05:01.098
So, worthless men, sons of worthlessness.
00:05:02.461 --> 00:05:05.861
He says that that's what it means. There was no fear of God.
00:05:06.061 --> 00:05:13.961
So at what point does you go from being a priest of God, where your father is a high priest,
00:05:14.181 --> 00:05:21.201
where you lose all reverence of God, so much so that your father does not even
00:05:21.201 --> 00:05:23.361
correct you at the altar.
00:05:23.861 --> 00:05:31.561
That God had to come down and kill them. A judgment had to fall.
00:05:32.361 --> 00:05:36.821
Think about that. So in today's term, scoundrels are corrupt,
00:05:37.101 --> 00:05:41.521
rebellious, and disrespectful toward spiritual authority and holiness.
00:05:41.701 --> 00:05:42.881
Do we know a few of those people?
00:05:43.181 --> 00:05:50.921
So scoundrels are corrupt, rebellious, and disrespectful toward spiritual authority and holiness.
00:05:51.801 --> 00:05:57.961
The names of Eli's sons was Hophni and Phanias, whereas they weren't just wild,
00:05:58.161 --> 00:06:04.541
they were dangerous, abusing the priesthood for personal gain. So why does this matter?
00:06:04.861 --> 00:06:07.321
It says scoundrels wasn't a casual insult.
00:06:07.941 --> 00:06:11.241
It was a spiritual indictment from God.
00:06:11.561 --> 00:06:14.981
You are considered scoundrels.
00:06:15.241 --> 00:06:19.761
In scripture, the word eventually became a title for Satan himself.
00:06:19.881 --> 00:06:22.361
Why? Because Satan is a scoundrel.
00:06:22.621 --> 00:06:31.461
He has no fear of God and no moral compass. and he gets people like Hophni and
00:06:31.461 --> 00:06:35.561
Phinehas to do his work, right?
00:06:35.901 --> 00:06:40.061
So you can wear priestly garments, but if you mock the offering,
00:06:40.321 --> 00:06:43.001
you're leading with a rebellious heart.
00:06:43.321 --> 00:06:50.061
This is a warning to the modern church. Position doesn't equal purity and ordination
00:06:50.061 --> 00:06:53.021
doesn't override by obedience.
00:06:53.941 --> 00:06:58.461
So we see here, we don't want to be called a scoundrel, and we do definitely
00:06:58.461 --> 00:07:04.881
want to be partnered with the enemy to tear down the church of the holy God. Amen.
00:07:05.781 --> 00:07:11.221
So what are some signs that your sanctuary has become a stage?
00:07:12.461 --> 00:07:17.621
If you were at your church, you said, how did my church, how did my sanctuary
00:07:17.621 --> 00:07:21.381
become a stage? So let's talk about it.
00:07:21.821 --> 00:07:28.541
The worship team is skilled, but nobody is weeping, never really takes us into worship.
00:07:29.181 --> 00:07:33.541
You know, sometimes the worship team is, they take you into them.
00:07:33.621 --> 00:07:37.381
It's always about what they're wearing, you know, how they're singing.
00:07:37.381 --> 00:07:40.841
It's like, come on now, we want to get into the presence of the Lord.
00:07:41.161 --> 00:07:45.681
You know, it's some kind of dance that's not really a holy dance.
00:07:45.941 --> 00:07:51.241
So we're dancing, but it's not a holy dance. It's not really dancing us into the presence of God.
00:07:51.901 --> 00:07:53.481
It reminds you, sometimes you
00:07:53.481 --> 00:07:58.081
can be at church and you can actually feel like you're at a dance party.
00:07:59.467 --> 00:08:02.087
Are you looking for a dance party or are you looking for Jesus?
00:08:03.047 --> 00:08:05.907
Preaching is polished, but it doesn't pierce.
00:08:06.447 --> 00:08:09.627
Their suit is piercing. They got the baddest suit on.
00:08:09.727 --> 00:08:15.067
The preacher is looking pretty sharp, but his word is not sharper, right?
00:08:15.387 --> 00:08:18.387
People clap, but they don't change.
00:08:18.887 --> 00:08:22.367
A lot of clapping, a lot of applauding, a lot of standing up.
00:08:22.507 --> 00:08:24.567
And then next thing you know, they're out.
00:08:24.967 --> 00:08:27.887
They leave there and nothing changes.
00:08:28.687 --> 00:08:32.347
There are noise, but there's no presence. There's no God.
00:08:32.587 --> 00:08:39.807
You go to church and you leave church and you are still the same. Nothing changes.
00:08:40.487 --> 00:08:46.187
2 Timothy 3.5 says, Having a form of godliness, but denying its power.
00:08:46.447 --> 00:08:50.267
Having nothing to do, have nothing to do with such people.
00:08:50.927 --> 00:08:56.387
Familiarity has turned the church into a crowd or a fan club.
00:08:56.887 --> 00:09:00.167
You ever say, I got to go hear this person preach. This person preach really
00:09:00.167 --> 00:09:03.627
good. It's he's preaching the word of God, right?
00:09:04.047 --> 00:09:08.267
You know, he's preaching the word of God. But God is not coming for a crowd.
00:09:08.467 --> 00:09:12.967
He's coming for a bride and he's cleansing his temple.
00:09:13.187 --> 00:09:15.267
Nothing wrong with some good preaching. Don't get me wrong.
00:09:15.567 --> 00:09:21.567
But when you override the preacher before God, there's got to be a problem.
00:09:22.087 --> 00:09:24.327
Not got to be. There is a problem.
00:09:25.307 --> 00:09:31.547
A call to tear down the stage and restore the altar. Let's go to Joel 2, chapter 12 through 13.
00:09:32.267 --> 00:09:36.927
It says, even now declares the Lord, return to me with all your heart.
00:09:37.547 --> 00:09:43.967
Wring your heart and not your garments. The sanctuary is not for performance. It's for presence.
00:09:44.427 --> 00:09:47.907
The altar is not for lights. It's for lightning.
00:09:48.467 --> 00:09:52.607
Come on now. Divine encounters that changes everything.
00:09:53.467 --> 00:09:59.647
This isn't a call to fix the lights or the songs. It's a call to bring reverence back to the room.
00:09:59.947 --> 00:10:02.607
Where is the trembling? Where is the repentance?
00:10:03.047 --> 00:10:09.467
Where is the holy hush? But God walks in and you don't even want to breathe
00:10:09.467 --> 00:10:12.847
because His presence is so holy.
00:10:14.020 --> 00:10:20.900
Let's pray. Lord, we built churches you never asked for. We've honored platforms more than purity.
00:10:21.220 --> 00:10:24.640
We have applauded performances while ignoring your voice.
00:10:25.040 --> 00:10:28.600
Forgive us. Forgive our pastors. Forgive our worship leaders.
00:10:28.820 --> 00:10:32.780
Forgive the stage we built on the ashes of the altar.
00:10:33.480 --> 00:10:38.580
Tear down what we built without you. Restore the fear of the Lord in the sanctuary.
00:10:39.020 --> 00:10:42.740
Let conviction fall. Let your glory return.
00:10:42.740 --> 00:10:50.660
We don't want performances we want present we don't want hype we want holy,
00:10:51.340 --> 00:10:54.240
in Jesus name, amen say this with
00:10:54.240 --> 00:11:00.160
me I will not treat the house of God as a common I will not honor the platform
00:11:00.160 --> 00:11:06.120
I will not honor the platform over the altar I will not be a spectator I will
00:11:06.120 --> 00:11:12.180
be a worshiper the Lord is returning to his house and I will make room for him,
00:11:13.180 --> 00:11:21.640
The fear of the Lord is returning to his house, and I will make room for him. Amen.
00:11:22.780 --> 00:11:26.620
God is still holy. God is still holy.
00:11:27.220 --> 00:11:31.960
You may have never been taught. You may have grown up under a system that fed
00:11:31.960 --> 00:11:33.860
the flesh and ignored the spirit.
00:11:34.180 --> 00:11:37.820
But now you know God is still holy.
00:11:38.180 --> 00:11:43.320
His sanctuary is still sacred. and he is not impressed by performance.
00:11:43.600 --> 00:11:45.820
He is moved by reverence.
00:11:47.293 --> 00:11:51.433
So next episode, we'll go a little bit deeper. We'll examine Merrim,
00:11:51.973 --> 00:11:58.213
Sarai, and those who became too familiar with the spiritual authority and divine
00:11:58.213 --> 00:12:03.793
assignment, and what happens when familiarity leads to dishonor.
00:12:04.193 --> 00:12:13.493
Until then, worship deeply, walk humbly, and never treat the sanctuary like a stage again.
00:12:14.013 --> 00:12:15.693
This is your host, Connie Morris,
00:12:15.833 --> 00:12:20.353

00:12:31.773 --> 00:12:34.993
not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
00:12:35.373 --> 00:12:38.533
And when you seek Him with all your heart, you will find Him.
00:12:39.273 --> 00:12:44.013
He will bring you back from captivity and restore everything that was lost.
00:12:44.393 --> 00:12:46.933
Hold on your healing for clarity.
