Mind of Christ: Ep 11: Forgive to Be Free: The Freedom Mindset
In this episode of Diary of a Black Woman’s Faith on the Go series, Connie Morris explores Day 11: the Freedom Mindset — the power of forgiveness. Using Scripture and personal testimony, she shows how forgiving before apology, speaking blessings, remembering God’s grace, praying until peace returns, and releasing the need to know the why lead to healing, restored prayer, and spiritual freedom.
Connie invites listeners to let go of bitterness, trust God with justice, and step into a lighter, freer life where God completes the work He began.

Welcome to the Diary of a Black Woman podcast with your host,
00:00:16.693 --> 00:00:21.413
Connie Morris, where healing has a voice and truth is no longer silent.
00:00:21.653 --> 00:00:26.353
Father God, like Jabez, we cry out that thou would bless us indeed.
00:00:26.913 --> 00:00:32.293
Bless every woman listening beyond trauma, beyond limits, beyond what she thought
00:00:32.293 --> 00:00:35.053
was possible. Enlarge her territory.
00:00:35.533 --> 00:00:39.273
Expand her purpose. Let your hand be upon this moment.
00:00:39.553 --> 00:00:45.453
Saturate every word with oil and truth. break cycles, cancel every curse sent
00:00:45.453 --> 00:00:48.953
to silence her. This isn't just a podcast.
00:00:49.373 --> 00:00:55.913
This is holy ground. In Jesus' name, amen. Hello, and welcome back to the Diary
00:00:55.913 --> 00:00:57.133
of a Black Woman podcast.
00:00:57.553 --> 00:01:02.413
I'm your host, Connie Morris, and we are continuing our Faith on the Goal series.
00:01:02.433 --> 00:01:06.193
It's titled The Freedom Mindset.
00:01:06.313 --> 00:01:10.433
As we know, faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God.
00:01:10.433 --> 00:01:17.413
So I hope that you are getting free, getting your faith built up so that you
00:01:17.413 --> 00:01:22.093
can believe for the impossible because we have a God.
00:01:22.353 --> 00:01:27.273
We have a God, the impossible. He loves doing it in our lives.
00:01:27.413 --> 00:01:31.773
And so this is why this space was created. For your quiet moments,
00:01:31.933 --> 00:01:36.093
your work days, your commutes, and those in-between places where your spirit
00:01:36.093 --> 00:01:38.593
needs to be refilled, recharged.
00:01:38.593 --> 00:01:43.253
Faith on the Go is for those times when you're fighting battles not yet won,
00:01:43.413 --> 00:01:45.253
but already finished in Christ.
00:01:45.513 --> 00:01:50.473
It's for the ones who keep believing, keep pressing in, and keep walking by
00:01:50.473 --> 00:01:54.433
faith, even when the road gets long and narrow.
00:01:54.713 --> 00:01:59.233
So wherever you are today, settle in and let the word of God strengthen your
00:01:59.233 --> 00:02:01.633
faith while you are on earth.
00:02:02.073 --> 00:02:07.333
Go. Today's topic, we're going to start with day 11, the freedom mindset.
00:02:07.773 --> 00:02:12.273
And this is the mind of forgiveness. We'll go to Matthew 6, 14 to 15.
00:02:12.553 --> 00:02:17.973
Let's see what he says. For if you forgive other people when they sin against
00:02:17.973 --> 00:02:20.993
you, your father will also forgive you.
00:02:21.093 --> 00:02:27.033
But if you do not forgive others' sin, your father will not forgive your sins.
00:02:27.193 --> 00:02:30.553
Forgiveness was never optional for Jesus.
00:02:30.873 --> 00:02:35.413
It was a culture of his kingdom. It is the culture of his kingdom.
00:02:35.573 --> 00:02:41.153
He spoke about it often because he knew how easily offense can entangle the human heart.
00:02:41.273 --> 00:02:45.913
He understood that bitterness blinds us, but mercy makes us free.
00:02:46.153 --> 00:02:53.653
When Peter asked, Lord, how many times should I forgive my brother or sister who sinned against me?
00:02:53.993 --> 00:02:59.193
Up to seven times? Jesus answered, I tell you, not seven times,
00:02:59.313 --> 00:03:04.313
but 77 times, Matthew 18, 21 through 22.
00:03:04.573 --> 00:03:08.933
He wasn't giving Peter a number. He was revealing a mindset.
00:03:09.193 --> 00:03:12.013
What is that mindset? That mindset is forgiveness.
00:03:12.373 --> 00:03:18.953
And I always remember when I was preaching that 70 times, 77 times,
00:03:19.173 --> 00:03:23.213
I just said, forgive until you forget, right?
00:03:23.213 --> 00:03:29.393
Because we can hold on to stuff for a long time, but you keep forgiving until you forget.
00:03:29.673 --> 00:03:35.313
And you begin to treat that person as though he never or she never sinned against
00:03:35.313 --> 00:03:37.793
you. That's the forgiveness mindset.
00:03:38.053 --> 00:03:42.373
And we see that's how Jesus lived. The mind of Christ don't hold offense.
00:03:42.593 --> 00:03:43.813
They don't hold judgment.
00:03:44.093 --> 00:03:49.273
They don't hold anger against anyone. They just forgive until they stop remembering
00:03:49.273 --> 00:03:51.953
how much that person has caused them.
00:03:52.073 --> 00:03:58.553
Right? So later on this parable, we later on, Jesus told the parable of the unforgiving servant
00:03:58.905 --> 00:04:06.765
who had been forgiven an enormous debt, but refused to forgive a small one. Matthew 18, 23 to 25.
00:04:07.065 --> 00:04:13.665
The lesson was clear. Forgiveness imprisons the one who refuses to release it.
00:04:13.825 --> 00:04:16.965
We talked about holding hostages in our heart, right?
00:04:17.185 --> 00:04:23.205
Same thing. This servant, he was forgiven so much, but yet he chased down this
00:04:23.205 --> 00:04:25.385
family, owed them a little bit of nothing.
00:04:25.385 --> 00:04:29.645
And the Bible says he was sent to a place where the gnashing of teeth,
00:04:29.925 --> 00:04:32.685
like that was an unforgivable sin for him. Remember he said,
00:04:32.805 --> 00:04:33.885
your sin won't be forgiven.
00:04:34.245 --> 00:04:37.585
So just as you thinking like, you know, I can do this on earth,
00:04:37.745 --> 00:04:40.585
God is saying, oh, no, you don't. You don't get to do that.
00:04:40.825 --> 00:04:44.625
You forgive or you won't be forgiven. And guess what? I'm keeping track of that,
00:04:44.945 --> 00:04:48.225
right? Even on the cross, Jesus modeled the freedom of forgiveness.
00:04:48.585 --> 00:04:51.665
With his final breath, he released every wrong.
00:04:52.065 --> 00:04:55.505
Father, forgive them. Luke 23 to 34.
00:04:56.105 --> 00:05:01.285
Forgiveness was his final message and the first key to our healing.
00:05:01.525 --> 00:05:06.245
Come on now. We want to be healed. We need to forgive. You ever see people with
00:05:06.245 --> 00:05:08.905
bitterness in their body? It's arthritis.
00:05:09.305 --> 00:05:11.645
It's arthritis. It's arthritis.
00:05:12.165 --> 00:05:17.065
Forgiveness was his final message, and that should be our final message.
00:05:17.365 --> 00:05:19.685
When they remember you, they're going to say, you know what?
00:05:19.785 --> 00:05:23.985
I tried to get her back, but she kept forgiving me. She just kept forgiving me.
00:05:24.085 --> 00:05:27.865
She would not confront me. Remember I shared with you in the earlier episodes
00:05:27.865 --> 00:05:32.525
that I have a person who walks around in anger and I decided I'm going to free
00:05:32.525 --> 00:05:37.465
myself from you because I don't want that offense on me.
00:05:37.741 --> 00:05:42.361
So I forgave her, I cut her loose, and I walk in my freedom bubble,
00:05:42.581 --> 00:05:46.341
my freedom mindset. I'm free, I'm free, I'm free.
00:05:46.561 --> 00:05:51.501
The mind of Christ stays unburdened by bitterness, unforgiveness clouds discernment.
00:05:51.861 --> 00:05:54.901
Poisons peace, and disrupts prayer.
00:05:55.141 --> 00:06:00.681
That's why Jesus taught us to include forgiveness in our daily communion with the Father.
00:06:01.001 --> 00:06:06.981
Matthew 6, 12 tells us, forgive our debts as we have forgiven our debtors.
00:06:06.981 --> 00:06:09.381
Forgiveness is not about who deserves it.
00:06:09.501 --> 00:06:12.081
It's about who needs to be free.
00:06:12.361 --> 00:06:16.941
When you release others, you release yourself. You step out of the prison of
00:06:16.941 --> 00:06:19.301
pain and into the presence of peace.
00:06:19.481 --> 00:06:23.401
To forgive is to trust that God will handle what you cannot.
00:06:23.681 --> 00:06:29.341
Surrender in its purest form, the kind that heals your heart and renews your mind.
00:06:29.481 --> 00:06:34.781
Colossians 3.13 tells us to bear with each other and forgive one another.
00:06:34.821 --> 00:06:41.421
If any of you have a grievance against someone, forgive as the Lord forgave you.
00:06:41.681 --> 00:06:45.641
Forgiveness doesn't mean reconciliation. It means release.
00:06:45.941 --> 00:06:50.541
It's choosing to live untangled with the weight of resentment.
00:06:50.761 --> 00:06:54.141
Every time you forgive, you reclaim authority over your peace.
00:06:54.341 --> 00:06:58.941
Forgiveness isn't forgetting what happened, It's remembering without reliving it.
00:06:59.141 --> 00:07:03.121
It says, I don't let this define me or distract me from my destiny.
00:07:03.401 --> 00:07:08.861
So ask yourself, am I rehearsing an old pain instead of releasing it? Who am I?
00:07:09.474 --> 00:07:12.994
Still holding on, still holding hostage in my heart?
00:07:13.134 --> 00:07:18.474
And do I trust God to bring justice in his way and in his time?
00:07:18.694 --> 00:07:21.254
It all shows in how you forgive and forget, right?
00:07:21.534 --> 00:07:24.594
You say you don't have to forget, but you don't have to hold him hostage either.
00:07:24.914 --> 00:07:29.334
I said, keep forgiving until you forget. Keep forgiving until you get free.
00:07:29.614 --> 00:07:33.654
Keep forgiving until you have this freedom mindset. So let's walk it out like
00:07:33.654 --> 00:07:35.494
Jesus. Let's see what he says.
00:07:35.834 --> 00:07:38.974
Number one, forgive before you're asked.
00:07:39.474 --> 00:07:46.534
Jesus forgave those who never apologized. Luke 23, 34, freedom starts before remorse.
00:07:46.754 --> 00:07:51.174
Now that's a hard one, right? Forgive before they apologize,
00:07:51.454 --> 00:07:57.254
but the Holy Spirit will remind you, needless to say, you might want to forgive them.
00:07:57.674 --> 00:08:05.434
Boom, it's done. And so you are being the mind of Christ. It's not a reactive type of mind.
00:08:05.534 --> 00:08:08.094
It's more of a proactive type of mind.
00:08:08.254 --> 00:08:13.214
He's not allowing you to wait until they come and forgive because they never, never, never will.
00:08:13.374 --> 00:08:17.554
But if they never will, then you still hold them hostage and you still living in bondage too.
00:08:17.734 --> 00:08:20.434
And you're not healed, you're not free, you're not restored.
00:08:20.889 --> 00:08:25.969
But you forgive before you're asked, you're proactively defeating the devil.
00:08:26.129 --> 00:08:30.829
And he's like, wait a minute, hold up. I want it to turn into bitterness and wrath.
00:08:31.029 --> 00:08:33.509
And even when you get this wrath in your heart, guess what?
00:08:33.809 --> 00:08:38.489
People start to be unalived because they don't let that go.
00:08:38.729 --> 00:08:42.589
Let's go to number two, speak blessings, not bitterness.
00:08:43.049 --> 00:08:48.829
When you bless those who hurt you, you break the spiritual chain, Romans 12, 14.
00:08:49.129 --> 00:08:51.669
You break the spiritual chain.
00:08:52.009 --> 00:08:55.269
There's hostage, then there's some chain. You can let them go,
00:08:55.449 --> 00:08:57.729
but you're still holding on to that bitterness.
00:08:57.969 --> 00:09:00.509
That's like a chain wrapped around you and them.
00:09:00.849 --> 00:09:04.389
Nobody's free in this situation. But when you speak blessings,
00:09:04.389 --> 00:09:08.809
not bitterness, you break the spiritual chain, according to Romans 12,
00:09:08.989 --> 00:09:12.169
14. Number three, remember your own grace story.
00:09:12.309 --> 00:09:17.429
The more aware you are of how much you've been forgiving, it's easier to forgive.
00:09:17.609 --> 00:09:19.929
Ephesians 4.32, we forget.
00:09:20.309 --> 00:09:23.769
Christians are the ones that are the hardest to forget. Forgive.
00:09:24.149 --> 00:09:27.949
Let it go, folks, because you are worshiping the Lord. He said,
00:09:28.069 --> 00:09:30.289
I need you to go forgive that person. I don't want your money.
00:09:30.449 --> 00:09:34.549
Go forgive them and then come and give because your offering is not good under
00:09:34.549 --> 00:09:38.289
that unforgiveness umbrella, right? And so remember your own great story.
00:09:38.389 --> 00:09:40.349
Number four, pray until peace returns.
00:09:40.609 --> 00:09:44.129
Pray until peace returns. Forgiveness is sometimes a process.
00:09:44.549 --> 00:09:49.769
Keep praying until the sting is gone. Philippians 4, 6 to 7.
00:09:50.129 --> 00:09:52.129
Keep praying until you forget.
00:09:52.549 --> 00:09:56.209
Keep praying, keep forgiving until the sting is gone.
00:09:56.429 --> 00:09:59.529
I remember an incident where my heart was just broken.
00:09:59.729 --> 00:10:03.369
I just felt betrayed. But I just said, Lord, I forgive them.
00:10:03.509 --> 00:10:08.849
They know not what they do. And I don't want that barrier in my prayer because
00:10:08.849 --> 00:10:11.029
sometimes you can't get to heaven because we got the
00:10:11.373 --> 00:10:15.453
this unforgiveness in our way. And I didn't want that in my way anymore,
00:10:15.493 --> 00:10:17.893
even though I have the right to be angry.
00:10:17.933 --> 00:10:23.393
I just said, I refuse to let that be a chain. I refuse to hold them hostage.
00:10:23.613 --> 00:10:28.553
You know, I'm not saying it was easy, but you make an effort to do it.
00:10:28.693 --> 00:10:32.373
You say, if it's up to me, I'm going to be at peace with everyone.
00:10:32.573 --> 00:10:37.453
I might not like you, but I'm not going to have you in my heart with unforgiveness,
00:10:37.653 --> 00:10:39.953
right? And number five, let go of the why.
00:10:40.173 --> 00:10:42.153
Jesus didn't demand an explanation.
00:10:42.393 --> 00:10:44.253
He extended mercy. Release.
00:10:45.024 --> 00:10:49.604
But release the need to understand Isaiah 55, 8 through 9.
00:10:49.784 --> 00:10:54.464
We will not know everything on this earth. We will not know it.
00:10:54.664 --> 00:10:58.804
And so when we want to know the why you did this, why you shouldn't have done
00:10:58.804 --> 00:11:00.744
that. And we want them to give a reason.
00:11:01.044 --> 00:11:03.484
Sometimes they don't even know they're working for the enemy.
00:11:03.544 --> 00:11:05.464
Remember, we don't wrestle against flesh and blood.
00:11:05.724 --> 00:11:10.804
And so whatever had them that day got them trapped, trying to keep you trapped.
00:11:11.004 --> 00:11:16.024
Remember? And so we don't want that. So let go the why, let mercy have the last
00:11:16.024 --> 00:11:19.344
word, and release the need to understand.
00:11:19.644 --> 00:11:23.664
Let's pray. Father, thank you for the freedom found in forgiveness.
00:11:24.004 --> 00:11:28.484
Search my heart for hidden grudges and old wounds. Heal what I buried and help
00:11:28.484 --> 00:11:30.584
me to release what I can't control.
00:11:30.884 --> 00:11:35.484
Teach me to forgive as Jesus forgave, freely, fully, and without condition.
00:11:35.784 --> 00:11:42.184
Let my life be a reflection of your mercy, and let my mind be a dwelling place
00:11:42.184 --> 00:11:44.884
of peace. In Jesus' name, amen.
00:11:45.204 --> 00:11:50.804
I decree I have the mind of Christ. My heart is light, my mind is clear, and my spirit is free.
00:11:51.004 --> 00:11:55.764
I release every offense, forgive every debt, and walk in divine peace.
00:11:56.064 --> 00:12:01.564
Nothing in my past can hold me when God's grace has already freed me.
00:12:01.704 --> 00:12:05.744
I'm going to leave you with this. Who or what have you been carrying that God
00:12:05.744 --> 00:12:07.364
has asked you to release?
00:12:07.784 --> 00:12:12.784
And what might your life look like if you finally let it go?
00:12:12.964 --> 00:12:16.664
Thank you for listening to Faith on the Go with your host, Connie Morris,
00:12:16.884 --> 00:12:19.344
from the Diary of a Black Woman podcast.
00:12:19.444 --> 00:12:25.104
I pray that this word energizes your faith and reminds you of God's promise
00:12:25.104 --> 00:12:30.644
to allow his word to work in your life.
00:12:30.724 --> 00:12:36.704
Remember, he tells you Isaiah 55, 11, he says, so shall my word be that goes out of my mouth.
00:12:36.784 --> 00:12:39.624
It should not return to me void, but should.
00:12:40.324 --> 00:12:42.424
Let forgiveness come back to you.
00:12:43.143 --> 00:12:47.643
Let me know how that works for you, that we're finally letting it go.
00:12:47.903 --> 00:12:51.163
We're letting it go. And be confident of this.
00:12:51.363 --> 00:12:55.943
He who began a good work in you will carry it out to completion until the day
00:12:55.943 --> 00:12:57.823
of Christ. Philippians 1.6.
00:12:58.223 --> 00:13:01.043
Remember, God wants to finish this work in you.
00:13:01.483 --> 00:13:06.163
Don't hinder him. Do not hinder him. God will finish what he started.
00:13:06.443 --> 00:13:10.843
He will do that. And you will look back today, write it on your calendar,
00:13:11.043 --> 00:13:13.863
and you'll say, you know what? Connie was right.
00:13:14.063 --> 00:13:17.023
It doesn't hurt as much and my life is better.
00:13:17.283 --> 00:13:21.603
The sickness and disease that I held on from that wrath and unforgiveness is
00:13:21.603 --> 00:13:25.043
finally letting go. My body doesn't ache as bad as it used to.
00:13:25.303 --> 00:13:29.743
So I want to encourage you to keep believing, keep walking, and keep trusting
00:13:29.743 --> 00:13:33.623
because God will finish what he has started in you.
00:13:33.803 --> 00:13:35.963
In Jesus name, amen.
00:13:36.343 --> 00:13:40.303
Thank you for listening to this episode. And before we close out,
00:13:40.483 --> 00:13:46.543
I want to speak a word of promise over you from Jeremiah 29, 11 through 14.
00:13:47.003 --> 00:13:52.323
Father God, you declared, I know the plans I have for you, plans to prosper
00:13:52.323 --> 00:13:56.823
you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
00:13:57.043 --> 00:13:59.403
So today we receive that truth.
00:13:59.683 --> 00:14:03.763
You said when we call on you, you will listen. So we pray.
00:14:03.923 --> 00:14:09.303
You said that when we seek you with our hearts, you will be found. So we pursue.
00:14:09.523 --> 00:14:15.223
You said you will restore us from captivity. So we declare freedom over every
00:14:15.223 --> 00:14:19.243
place where our listeners feel stuck, silenced, or small.
00:14:19.523 --> 00:14:25.383
Thank you for always drawing near when we show up in faith. In Jesus' name, amen.
