No Kool-Aid: Ep. 2 : Hold Fast to Your God-Given Name
In episode two of Diary of a Black Woman, Connie Morris examines Daniel 1:6–7 to show how Babylon warped identity by renaming God’s people and why names shape destiny.
She encourages listeners to reject false labels, remember who called them, and live out their heavenly identity through practical steps, decrees, and biblical reminders.
Connie closes with calls to action, Scripture encouragement, and an invitation to connect at diaryofablackwomanllc.com — a reminder that your true name is written in heaven.

00:00:10.013 --> 00:00:15.593
Welcome to the Diary of a Black Woman podcast, where we pray bold prayers,
00:00:16.073 --> 00:00:19.953
walk in bold faith, and expect a bold God to show up.
00:00:20.093 --> 00:00:25.673
I'm your host, Connie Morris, and we open every episode with the same unshakable
00:00:25.673 --> 00:00:29.613
confidence Jabez had in 1 Chronicles 4.10.
00:00:29.893 --> 00:00:35.613
Lord, bless me indeed, enlarge my territory, let your hand be with me,
00:00:35.973 --> 00:00:39.973
keep me from evil, and keep me from causing pain. And the Bible says,
00:00:40.493 --> 00:00:41.833
God granted his request.
00:00:42.033 --> 00:00:45.573
So if you're here today, get ready, because we're praying big,
00:00:45.953 --> 00:00:51.813
believing big, and walking in everything God promised. Let's begin.
00:01:00.993 --> 00:01:05.093
Hello and welcome back to Diary of a Black Woman podcast. I'm your host Connie
00:01:05.093 --> 00:01:11.553
Morris and we're continuing our series on episode two, Living in Babylon Without
00:01:11.553 --> 00:01:15.393
Drinking the Kool-Aid or No Kool-Aid for Me.
00:01:15.553 --> 00:01:22.433
And this is subtitle is The Name Game and it's found in Daniel 1 verses 6 through 7.
00:01:22.713 --> 00:01:27.033
The world will rename you to control your destiny.
00:01:27.453 --> 00:01:30.673
Let's go to Daniel chapter 1 verses 6 through 7.
00:01:30.993 --> 00:01:35.753
I'm reading from the King James Version. And it reads here, it says,
00:01:35.893 --> 00:01:40.473
the title in my Bible says, Name Changed the Importance of a Name.
00:01:40.813 --> 00:01:48.573
Now, among these were of the children of Judah, Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah.
00:01:48.693 --> 00:01:53.513
So they were named after God. And so now they're in the city of Babylon,
00:01:53.893 --> 00:01:55.433
the country of Babylon, right?
00:01:55.633 --> 00:02:00.853
And verse 7 tells us that unto whom the prince of the Enoch gave names,
00:02:00.993 --> 00:02:08.493
For he gave unto Daniel the name Belshazzar, and unto Hanaiah of Shadrach,
00:02:08.613 --> 00:02:13.873
and of Mishael of Meshach, and of Azirah of Abednego.
00:02:14.113 --> 00:02:19.053
And so he named them Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego.
00:02:19.353 --> 00:02:26.753
And Daniel's name was Belshazzar. And so we see here that name changed because the kingdom changed.
00:02:26.893 --> 00:02:29.093
You know? And so let's continue.
00:02:29.692 --> 00:02:34.512
It says, in ancient Babylon, renaming was more than a formality.
00:02:34.692 --> 00:02:37.112
It was a declaration of ownership.
00:02:37.452 --> 00:02:41.332
The Hebrew name Daniel means God is my judge.
00:02:41.512 --> 00:02:48.152
But the Babylonians changed it to Belshazzar, meaning Bale protects his life.
00:02:48.392 --> 00:02:51.352
So they changed it to another God.
00:02:51.672 --> 00:02:55.552
Each of the four Hebrew young men bore names that honor Yahweh,
00:02:55.552 --> 00:03:00.272
yet each new name honored the Babylonian gods instead.
00:03:00.632 --> 00:03:04.112
This was a strategy of spiritual identity theft.
00:03:04.372 --> 00:03:09.812
By changing their names, Babylon sought to erase their covenant heritage and
00:03:09.812 --> 00:03:11.272
reshape their allegiance.
00:03:11.632 --> 00:03:16.572
But while Babylon could rename them, he could not redefine them.
00:03:16.752 --> 00:03:21.652
The first battle Daniel faced in Babylon wasn't physical, it was personal.
00:03:21.652 --> 00:03:28.512
Before the diet test, before the lion's den, came the assault on identity.
00:03:29.132 --> 00:03:34.252
Babylon will always begin in fact with a name. Why?
00:03:34.472 --> 00:03:39.572
Because names carry nature. What you are called, you often become.
00:03:39.892 --> 00:03:47.352
If the enemy can get you to answer to something false, he can get you to live beneath your identity.
00:03:47.352 --> 00:03:55.832
Daniel name meant God is my judge, but Belshazzar meant Prince of Bel, a Babylonian deity.
00:03:56.312 --> 00:04:03.892
Hananiah, God is gracious, became Shadrach, meaning command of Aku among God.
00:04:04.312 --> 00:04:10.112
Mishael, who is like God, became Meshach, who is like Aku.
00:04:10.372 --> 00:04:17.872
Azira, the Lord helps, becomes Abednego, servant of Nebu. Can you see the pattern here?
00:04:18.052 --> 00:04:22.112
Every divine identity was replaced with a counterfeit.
00:04:22.312 --> 00:04:26.712
Every godly association was swapped with the worldly one.
00:04:27.280 --> 00:04:30.340
How this is how the enemy works today.
00:04:30.620 --> 00:04:37.960
He doesn't need to imprison you if he can rename you. He replaces chosen with unworthy.
00:04:38.200 --> 00:04:44.240
He trades forgiveness for broken. He whispers too late, too flawed, too forgotten.
00:04:44.480 --> 00:04:50.600
But heaven registry never updates based on Babylon's opinion.
00:04:50.880 --> 00:04:56.380
Isaiah 62 tells us that the Lord will give you a new name, that the mouth of
00:04:56.380 --> 00:04:57.940
the Lord will designate.
00:04:58.100 --> 00:05:01.140
So Daniel didn't fight to keep his own name.
00:05:01.300 --> 00:05:05.060
He lived in a way that made the new one meaningless.
00:05:05.600 --> 00:05:09.080
He refused to let Babylon label stick.
00:05:09.460 --> 00:05:15.200
When God is your judge, you stop living in the applause of accusation of men.
00:05:15.380 --> 00:05:21.900
You start walking in the truth that identity is not determined by environment, but by encounter.
00:05:22.180 --> 00:05:28.060
Maybe you've been mislabeled by people, past pains, or even by your own self-talk.
00:05:28.280 --> 00:05:33.280
But just like Daniel, your name, your identity carries a divine assignment.
00:05:33.360 --> 00:05:36.280
You don't need to fight for validation.
00:05:36.460 --> 00:05:40.880
You just need to remember who called you in the first place.
00:05:41.020 --> 00:05:42.140
Something to think about.
00:05:42.746 --> 00:05:47.466
What labels or names have others given you that God never did?
00:05:47.646 --> 00:05:51.446
How has your environment tried to define you or limit you?
00:05:51.666 --> 00:05:58.766
What name has God called you that you stopped answering to? Wow, powerful, powerful.
00:05:59.086 --> 00:06:02.866
Let's do some decrees and confessions. Let's shake that off.
00:06:03.286 --> 00:06:07.166
I reject every false label Babylon has spoken over my life.
00:06:07.386 --> 00:06:11.746
I am not who the world says I am. I am who God calls me to be.
00:06:11.746 --> 00:06:16.806
My name is written in heaven, and my purpose cannot be redefined.
00:06:17.026 --> 00:06:21.846
Let's pray. Father, thank you for calling me by name and marking me with your identity.
00:06:22.326 --> 00:06:25.926
Where the world has tried to rename me, remind me who I am in you.
00:06:26.166 --> 00:06:29.066
Silence every voice that speaks contrary to your truth.
00:06:29.426 --> 00:06:34.446
Let my confidence come from your word, not from the world's approval.
00:06:34.666 --> 00:06:38.346
I belong to you, and that's the only name that matters.
00:06:38.586 --> 00:06:42.106
In Jesus' name, amen. I'm going to give you some call to action.
00:06:42.286 --> 00:06:45.646
You know, we got to put some action behind our faith.
00:06:45.966 --> 00:06:49.966
First thing I want you to do is I want you to write down every negative label you accepted.
00:06:50.346 --> 00:06:55.566
Words others spoke, failures that haunt you, or false identities you believe.
00:06:55.846 --> 00:07:03.106
Now cross them out boldly and write over each one, redeemed, restored, named by God.
00:07:03.386 --> 00:07:10.966
Declare aloud, God calls me by name. and I answer only to his voice.
00:07:10.966 --> 00:07:13.086
How not to drink the Kool-Aid.
00:07:13.732 --> 00:07:20.472
Resisting identity theft in Babylon. You belong to God, not the systems that surround you.
00:07:20.752 --> 00:07:24.912
Isaiah 43.1, it says, fear not, for I have redeemed you.
00:07:25.092 --> 00:07:28.812
I have called you by name. You are mine.
00:07:29.092 --> 00:07:35.472
When you remember who named you, you can't be shaken by who mislabels you.
00:07:35.832 --> 00:07:38.552
Number two, reject false renaming.
00:07:38.972 --> 00:07:44.992
Babylon will always try to replace divine identity with cultural identity.
00:07:45.472 --> 00:07:51.832
Romans 12.2 tells us, do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed
00:07:51.832 --> 00:07:54.992
by the renewing of your mind.
00:07:55.212 --> 00:07:57.492
Don't drink the Kool-Aid of compromise.
00:07:57.852 --> 00:08:02.572
You were not meant to fit in. You were meant to stand out. Hallelujah.
00:08:03.292 --> 00:08:07.632
Number three, respond like Daniel. Daniel didn't fight over titles.
00:08:07.872 --> 00:08:11.652
He lived in truth. His character corrected his critics.
00:08:11.912 --> 00:08:17.732
Matthew 5, 16 reads, Let your life so shine before men that they may see your
00:08:17.732 --> 00:08:21.152
good works and glorify your Father in heaven.
00:08:21.372 --> 00:08:25.492
Your life will reveal your real name. Beloved,
00:08:25.777 --> 00:08:30.177
chosen, set apart. Number four, remember the real record.
00:08:30.397 --> 00:08:34.097
Heaven has your identity recorded, sealed, and secured.
00:08:34.537 --> 00:08:37.517
Rejoice that your names are written in heaven.
00:08:37.897 --> 00:08:44.117
No demotion, betrayal, or Babylon system can delete what God has decreed.
00:08:44.477 --> 00:08:49.057
And the final one, number five, rest in your Redeemer's voice.
00:08:49.237 --> 00:08:53.477
Jesus said, sheep hear my voice and I know them and they follow me.
00:08:53.477 --> 00:09:00.517
John 10, 27 tells us, don't let Babylon noise drown out the shepherd's call.
00:09:00.737 --> 00:09:04.497
Your identity is heard through intimacy.
00:09:04.857 --> 00:09:10.137
Let's declare, through Babylon may rename me, heaven still recognizes me.
00:09:10.377 --> 00:09:12.497
My identity is sealed in Christ.
00:09:12.857 --> 00:09:19.577
My name is written in grace. And no system or season can redefine what God has
00:09:19.577 --> 00:09:24.917
spoken. Thank you for joining me today on Diary of a Black Woman podcast.
00:09:25.317 --> 00:09:32.057
I'm your host, Connie Morris, and I'll see you on episode three, The Power of Resolve.
00:09:32.577 --> 00:09:35.317

00:09:46.383 --> 00:09:50.843
Family, thank you for spending this time with me today. To every woman listening
00:09:50.843 --> 00:09:56.623
who has ever felt hidden, overlooked, or pushed aside, I want you to hear me clearly.
00:09:56.943 --> 00:09:59.823
God has not forgotten you, and neither have I.
00:09:59.983 --> 00:10:05.283

00:10:16.083 --> 00:10:19.743
it's all there at diaryofablackwomanllc.com.
00:10:19.843 --> 00:10:23.923
And if this podcast has blessed you and you want to support the work I'm doing,

you'll find a buy me, a coffee link on the site as well.
00:10:28.003 --> 00:10:30.563
No pressure, just love and community.
00:10:30.763 --> 00:10:33.503
Before we leave, I want to speak the word that I close with every time because
00:10:33.503 --> 00:10:38.083
somebody needs this reminder today. It comes from Jeremiah 29 11 14.
00:10:38.423 --> 00:10:42.923
I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and
00:10:42.923 --> 00:10:47.063
not to harm you, plans to give you hope in a future, then you will call upon
00:10:47.063 --> 00:10:50.243
me and come and pray to me and I will listen to you.
00:10:50.423 --> 00:10:54.083
You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.
00:10:54.083 --> 00:10:57.723
I will be found by you, declares the Lord.
00:10:58.123 --> 00:11:02.623
Beloved, God has a plan for your life, a real one, a good one.
00:11:02.763 --> 00:11:08.603
And as long as you keep seeking him, you will find him even from the hidden places. I love you.
00:11:08.703 --> 00:11:11.183
I'm praying for you, and I'll meet you next time.
