00:00:00.017 --> 00:00:05.177
Welcome back to the Dahlia Black Woman podcast. I'm your host Connie Morris

00:00:05.177 --> 00:00:11.517
and today we will continue our series, The Games We Play With God.

00:00:11.877 --> 00:00:15.937
This episode is titled Testing God's Patience.

00:00:16.357 --> 00:00:21.057
Have you ever found yourself grumbling or doubting God's provision even after

00:00:21.057 --> 00:00:26.217
he showed up in your life time and time again? If so, you're not alone.

00:00:26.537 --> 00:00:30.837
This is a game humanity has played for centuries,

00:00:30.837 --> 00:00:37.957
and we'll look at the Israelites in Numbers 14 as a clear example of what happens

00:00:37.957 --> 00:00:41.677
when we test God's patience.

00:00:42.617 --> 00:00:48.577
The Israelites testing God. So we're going to start in Numbers 14, 1 through 4.

00:00:48.797 --> 00:00:54.857
The Israelites who had just witnessed incredible miracles like being delivered

00:00:54.857 --> 00:01:02.497
from Egypt and seeing God part the Red Sea, began to complain when things got complicated.

00:01:03.017 --> 00:01:06.257
Let's go here to Numbers 14, 1 through 2.

00:01:06.537 --> 00:01:11.477
That night, all the members of the community raised their voices and wept aloud.

00:01:11.797 --> 00:01:16.877
All the Israelites grumbled against Moses and Aaron, and the whole assembly

00:01:16.877 --> 00:01:23.177
said to them, if only we had died in Egypt or in this wilderness.

00:01:23.937 --> 00:01:29.317
So they get free from slavery, and then they wish upon themselves that they

00:01:29.317 --> 00:01:32.937
would have died in Egypt or in the wilderness.

00:01:33.257 --> 00:01:38.137
How many times do we get free from one thing and we go into another thing,

00:01:38.297 --> 00:01:42.977
and it happens to be a little bit harder, right? Just It's a little bit harder.

00:01:44.017 --> 00:01:48.157
And we complain. And the Israelites, they wished death.

00:01:48.497 --> 00:01:52.017
Has anything been that hard where you wish that you were dead?

00:01:52.777 --> 00:01:57.257
Sometimes it feels that way, right? But when you wake up that next day and you

00:01:57.257 --> 00:02:03.737
are breathing, that means that God has given you another chance to win this fight.

00:02:04.117 --> 00:02:07.317
So let's continue here. It says, despite God's faithfulness,

00:02:07.477 --> 00:02:11.797
the Israelites doubted his ability to bring them into the promised land.

00:02:12.037 --> 00:02:17.997
Their grumbling wasn't just complaining, it was a lack of trust in God's promises.

00:02:19.237 --> 00:02:23.577
Are there areas in your life where you're doubting God's provision or timing?

00:02:24.257 --> 00:02:30.877
The consequences of testing God. The Israelites' lack of trust had serious consequences.

00:02:31.337 --> 00:02:36.257
God declared that none of the adults who had grumbled against him would enter

00:02:36.257 --> 00:02:43.377
the promised land. Only Joshua and Caleb, who trusted in God, were allowed to enter.

00:02:44.258 --> 00:02:50.298
Now, Numbers 14, 27 reads, it says, How long will this wicked community grumble against me?

00:02:50.538 --> 00:02:54.558
I have heard the complaints of these grumbling Israelites.

00:02:55.198 --> 00:02:58.278
When God said it twice, it ain't nice, right?

00:02:58.678 --> 00:03:06.698
Numbers 14, 27, he says, How long will this wicked community grumble against me?

00:03:07.018 --> 00:03:10.558
I have heard the complaints of these grumbling Israelites.

00:03:11.418 --> 00:03:17.398
Testing God's patience doesn't just delay blessings, it can lead to missed opportunities.

00:03:18.118 --> 00:03:23.898
The Israelites wandered in the wilderness for 40 years because of their lack of trust.

00:03:24.698 --> 00:03:29.638
What lessons can we learn from this? The testing of God's patience not only

00:03:29.638 --> 00:03:33.078
impacts us, but also affects those around us.

00:03:33.258 --> 00:03:37.798
Delaying progress and blessing our families and communities.

00:03:38.618 --> 00:03:46.638
So are you a grumbler and a complainer? So how do we test God in today's time, right?

00:03:46.898 --> 00:03:52.538
So we may not be literally wandering in the wilderness, but we still test God's

00:03:52.538 --> 00:03:56.538
patience in similar ways today. How did that look today?

00:03:56.858 --> 00:03:59.918
Number one, we grumble against provisions.

00:04:00.578 --> 00:04:06.138
We grumble about provision. Complaining about what we don't have instead of

00:04:06.138 --> 00:04:09.598
being grateful for what God has already provided.

00:04:10.078 --> 00:04:13.538
So that's why it's so important if you don't have a gratitude journal or any

00:04:13.538 --> 00:04:19.418
journal, if you're looking at what's always missing, you miss what's already been provided.

00:04:19.698 --> 00:04:23.538
Do you have a roof over your head? Do you have clothes on your back?

00:04:23.778 --> 00:04:25.478
Did your car start up this morning?

00:04:25.798 --> 00:04:30.438
Do you have just a few dollars in the bank? Do you have some food in your refrigerator?

00:04:30.998 --> 00:04:35.758
Are your kids healthy? Just little things. Are you thankful for that?

00:04:36.458 --> 00:04:39.598
Number two, do you have a job? Do you have your help?

00:04:40.558 --> 00:04:44.178
Number two, doubting his promises, questioning whether God will come through

00:04:44.178 --> 00:04:47.358
even after he's been faithful in the past.

00:04:47.698 --> 00:04:52.918
So just remember what he's already done. And I always remember he didn't bring

00:04:52.918 --> 00:04:56.058
me this far to just leave me, right?

00:04:56.598 --> 00:04:58.598
Number three, resisting his timing,

00:04:58.838 --> 00:05:03.438
trying to rush God's plans instead of waiting for his perfect timing.

00:05:04.198 --> 00:05:10.558
Just wrote another devotional on that one. Just being able to trust in God's perfect timing.

00:05:11.778 --> 00:05:17.418
Philippians 2, 14 to 15, it reads, do everything without grumbling or arguing,

00:05:17.638 --> 00:05:22.218
arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure.

00:05:23.038 --> 00:05:28.538
Children of God, blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a warped

00:05:28.538 --> 00:05:30.118
and crooked generation.

00:05:30.718 --> 00:05:36.118
I got to read that again. Do everything without grumbling or arguing,

00:05:36.338 --> 00:05:42.158
arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure children of God without fault

00:05:42.158 --> 00:05:44.258
in a world crooked generation.

00:05:44.918 --> 00:05:48.458
So if the church is complaining and the world is complaining,

00:05:48.678 --> 00:05:50.738
what makes you different?

00:05:51.198 --> 00:05:56.058
So he said, you want to represent me and not be the complainers,

00:05:56.458 --> 00:05:59.278
not be the one arguing and fussing, right?

00:05:59.998 --> 00:06:04.238
So gratitude and trust are the antidotes to grumbling and doubt.

00:06:04.758 --> 00:06:08.598
Here go some ways to stop testing God's patience.

00:06:09.238 --> 00:06:12.978
How do we do that? Number one, remember what he already done.

00:06:13.438 --> 00:06:16.678
Reflect on your past blessings and miracles in your life.

00:06:16.898 --> 00:06:20.538
He's not through blessing you, but you're grumbling and complaining,

00:06:20.858 --> 00:06:23.438
just like what happened in our last episode with Cora.

00:06:23.818 --> 00:06:29.278
You'll get sucked under the ground. So maybe, maybe not, but it didn't end well for him.

00:06:29.918 --> 00:06:35.098
Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget now all his benefits. Read Psalms 103,

00:06:35.598 --> 00:06:37.598
remind you of his benefits.

00:06:37.918 --> 00:06:40.318
So remember what he's already done.

00:06:40.718 --> 00:06:44.238
Jesus died on the cross for you so that you can have eternal life.

00:06:44.738 --> 00:06:49.438
That's enough. If he doesn't do anything else for you, that's actually enough.

00:06:49.778 --> 00:06:51.118
Find out what that means.

00:06:51.518 --> 00:06:53.658
What does that mean to you?

00:06:54.498 --> 00:07:00.278
Number two, trust his promises. Meditate on scriptures that remind you of God's faithfulness.

00:07:00.398 --> 00:07:05.218
For no matter how many promises God has made, they are yes in Christ.

00:07:05.418 --> 00:07:09.998
And so through him, the amen is spoken by us to the glory of God.

00:07:10.178 --> 00:07:14.718
2 Corinthians 1, 20, all God's promises are yes and amen.

00:07:15.018 --> 00:07:19.378
So as you're reading them, you can say yes, amen, yes, amen.

00:07:19.838 --> 00:07:23.218
Begin to read your Bible and find out what those promises are.

00:07:23.658 --> 00:07:27.098
So number one, remember what God has already done. It's written in his word.

00:07:27.578 --> 00:07:33.918
Trust his promises that what he said shall come to pass. And number three, cultivate gratitude.

00:07:34.598 --> 00:07:38.798
Replace complaints with thanksgiving.

00:07:39.058 --> 00:07:45.738
Give thanks in all circumstances for this is the will for you in Christ Jesus.

00:07:46.581 --> 00:07:53.001
Give thanks in all circumstances, for this is the will for you in Christ Jesus.

00:07:53.181 --> 00:07:55.341
1 Thessalonians 5.18.

00:07:55.721 --> 00:07:58.361
Give thanks in all circumstances.

00:07:58.941 --> 00:08:03.401
Give thanks in all circumstances. Like, how do I do that? Just try it.

00:08:03.721 --> 00:08:05.681
Give thanks in all circumstances.

00:08:06.121 --> 00:08:10.901
A lot of times we don't give thanks in all circumstances. It could be worse.

00:08:11.401 --> 00:08:17.301
So you say, ah, it could have been worse. If you're breathing and giving thanks, it could have been not.

00:08:17.401 --> 00:08:19.481
You could not be breathing, not giving thanks.

00:08:19.741 --> 00:08:22.161
So remember, it could have been worse.

00:08:22.981 --> 00:08:28.561
Amen. Let's go. All right, so let's declare these truths to realign our hearts

00:08:28.561 --> 00:08:29.901
with trust and gratitude.

00:08:30.461 --> 00:08:36.361
I decree that I will trust God's promises, knowing he is faithful to fulfill them.

00:08:36.781 --> 00:08:42.541
I decree that I will cultivate gratitude, replacing complaints with thanksgiving.

00:08:42.541 --> 00:08:49.801
And I decree that I will wait on God's timing, trusting that his plans are perfect.

00:08:50.561 --> 00:08:55.201
So what is the takeaway for this day?

00:08:55.841 --> 00:09:01.001
I challenge you to reflect on one area that you've been testing God's patience.

00:09:01.701 --> 00:09:07.581
Ask God, ask yourself, has God already been faithful in this area?

00:09:07.581 --> 00:09:12.041
And, you know, it's so good because you are thinking, you will think that,

00:09:12.041 --> 00:09:15.081
you know, God didn't even answer my prayer.

00:09:15.301 --> 00:09:19.401
And sometimes a no could be an answer. It was an answer.

00:09:19.921 --> 00:09:23.881
Dang, I didn't get that when I got, if I would have got some things that I asked

00:09:23.881 --> 00:09:25.681
for earlier in life, I don't know.

00:09:26.021 --> 00:09:32.321
That's like a good father. Like, it's not a good timing to give me that gift

00:09:32.321 --> 00:09:36.241
right now because I want to harm myself with it, right?

00:09:36.821 --> 00:09:39.881
Then what steps can we do to replace doubt with trust?

00:09:40.241 --> 00:09:45.441
What kind of things you can do that can replace that doubt with trust?

00:09:45.821 --> 00:09:50.961
I always recommend writing a gratitude journal, things that you're thankful for.

00:09:51.081 --> 00:09:55.001
So when you start thinking negative, change that attitude and start thinking

00:09:55.001 --> 00:09:57.701
about some things that you're thankful for.

00:09:57.901 --> 00:10:01.001
And that will remind you of God's faithfulness.

00:10:01.681 --> 00:10:05.121
Excuse me about that. So let's close with prayer. Heavenly Father,

00:10:05.221 --> 00:10:08.081
I thank you for your patience with us. Oh, yes.

00:10:08.501 --> 00:10:13.061
Even when we doubt and complain. Forgive us for the times we've tested your

00:10:13.061 --> 00:10:16.561
faithfulness and help us to trust you completely.

00:10:17.461 --> 00:10:24.681
Teach us to be grateful for all you've done and to wait on your timing with peace and confidence.

00:10:25.181 --> 00:10:27.421
In Jesus' name, amen.

00:10:28.478 --> 00:10:32.498
Wow. Thank you for joining me on this episode, The Games We Play With God.

00:10:32.678 --> 00:10:35.038

00:10:35.878 --> 00:10:41.538
And this message encourages you to share it with someone who needs to hear it.
