Welcome back to the Diary of a Black Woman podcast hosted by Connie Morris. Join us as we delve into day eight of the 'Wall Must Fall' series, a transformative 12-day Jericho fast focusing on consecration and dedication. Today's episode explores the theme 'Burn the Bridge Back, No Turning Back,' inspired by the story of Rahab from Joshua 6:25.

Rahab's decision to abandon her past and embrace a new life with God serves as a powerful metaphor for personal transformation. Listen in to learn how breaking old patterns, severing unhealthy ties, and refusing to rebuild what God has buried can lead to a life of freedom and forward momentum.

This episode encourages listeners to focus on what's ahead, urging them to maintain a strong connection with God while burning bridges to their past. As we reflect on Rahab's journey and potent biblical teachings, we invite you to confront anything that tempts you to return to your old ways and embrace the promise of a new path.

This is holy ground. In Jesus' name, amen.

00:00:54.193 --> 00:00:57.813
Hello, and welcome back to the Diary of a Black Woman podcast.

00:00:57.813 --> 00:01:04.073
And I'm your host, Connie Morris, and we are on day eight of our Wall Must Fall

00:01:04.073 --> 00:01:10.013
series, a 12-day Jericho fast of consecration and dedication.

00:01:10.433 --> 00:01:15.933
Today's topic is burn the bridge back, no turning back.

00:01:16.213 --> 00:01:20.853
Our foundational scripture today is Joshua 6 25.

00:01:21.553 --> 00:01:28.393
It says, but Joshua spared Rahab the prostitute because she hid the spies and

00:01:28.393 --> 00:01:34.373
she lives among the Israelites to this day. Let's talk about Rahab for a minute.

00:01:34.893 --> 00:01:39.973
Rahab determined that she was going to burn her bridge first.

00:01:40.473 --> 00:01:47.053
Rahab hid the spies and they were able to tell her to hang out a scarlet claw

00:01:47.053 --> 00:01:51.633
so that we'll know where you live and that we will come and get you when we come.

00:01:52.253 --> 00:01:58.373
So think about Rahab when she was in the, she lived right on the Jericho wall.

00:01:58.693 --> 00:02:02.813
And you can, and you know, check this out. think about how exciting that was,

00:02:03.271 --> 00:02:08.791
When you peek out the window and you see that your life is about to change.

00:02:09.451 --> 00:02:13.771
So imagine what Rahab was doing. She had all her families.

00:02:14.311 --> 00:02:22.011
She protected the spies. And all she asked from them was that you would save my family.

00:02:22.491 --> 00:02:27.411
And so when they heard the trumpets, when they saw the Ark of the Covenant,

00:02:27.811 --> 00:02:31.031
she knew it was time for her deliverance.

00:02:31.191 --> 00:02:38.111
Amen. So she had burned her bridges of being a prostitute and cited that, I'm going with the Lord.

00:02:38.291 --> 00:02:43.191
But she also didn't just leave her family there. She says, I'm going with the

00:02:43.191 --> 00:02:44.931
Lord. Are you coming with me?

00:02:45.191 --> 00:02:49.571
And guess what? They said, we're going to go with you. So not only was there

00:02:49.571 --> 00:02:57.111
a great anticipation for the Israelites, think about Rahab and her family.

00:02:57.111 --> 00:03:02.671
That great anticipation, that she's getting ready to start a new life with a

00:03:02.671 --> 00:03:05.891
new God. She was no longer worshiping her old God.

00:03:06.051 --> 00:03:10.591
She decided to worship the God Almighty, the God of the Israelites,

00:03:11.011 --> 00:03:17.851
the mighty God that saves, delivers, and set free, the mighty God that is coming for her.

00:03:18.011 --> 00:03:22.531
Think about how much excitement that was. And that's what I want you to do today.

00:03:22.591 --> 00:03:26.391
I want you to think about some things about burning some bridges.

00:03:26.731 --> 00:03:31.851
Today is burn bridge day. We know we're talking about the walls must fall,

00:03:32.051 --> 00:03:38.131
but there before that wall fell for Rahab, she had to burn some bridges.

00:03:38.131 --> 00:03:43.391
She had to let some things go, let some people go, let some places go.

00:03:43.611 --> 00:03:48.291
And if you teach a class on addiction, let some addiction go.

00:03:48.491 --> 00:03:51.651
You know, people, places, and things go.

00:03:52.306 --> 00:03:57.886
And that's what we call that consecration and dedication, that we have to let some things go.

00:03:58.146 --> 00:04:00.846
Everything can go with us into our new.

00:04:01.146 --> 00:04:05.986
Now, a story that just came to mind, but not said they can't come later,

00:04:05.986 --> 00:04:13.106
but when God is moving you, you may not have time to grab everybody. But Rahab did.

00:04:13.346 --> 00:04:16.486
And if that's you, God said, grab your family, let's go.

00:04:16.686 --> 00:04:21.426
You go. No, because as we see in the world today, there's floods and there's

00:04:21.426 --> 00:04:23.346
famines in the United States.

00:04:23.646 --> 00:04:27.626
We're not talking about overseas. We're talking about things are happening in

00:04:27.626 --> 00:04:32.866
our backyard, but yet we're not paying attention. We're not paying attention.

00:04:33.326 --> 00:04:37.786
God is speaking. He's whispering. He's telling us, hey, things are happening.

00:04:37.966 --> 00:04:40.766
I need you to get ready. I need you to get ready.

00:04:41.206 --> 00:04:44.826
Right. But yet Rahab was ready. Her and her family.

00:04:44.926 --> 00:04:50.486
Let's continue. When the walls fell, the people didn't rebuild it. They moved forward.

00:04:50.726 --> 00:04:52.926
No one ran back to grab bricks.

00:04:53.326 --> 00:04:56.146
No one tried to resurrect what God destroyed.

00:04:56.666 --> 00:05:02.946
They burned the bridge back. And this is a funny side story is if you ever been

00:05:02.946 --> 00:05:09.066
to Israel or Jerusalem, it's a very old town and it's surrounded by stones and

00:05:09.066 --> 00:05:10.766
bricks and all kinds of things.

00:05:10.926 --> 00:05:14.566
And I remember I took a tour there and It was an exciting tour,

00:05:14.586 --> 00:05:18.926
but I wanted souvenirs to say I've been there. You know what I was collecting?

00:05:19.146 --> 00:05:22.346
Stones and little bricks and just to put in my little bag.

00:05:22.686 --> 00:05:30.026
And when I went to the airport, they have a big old, like, it's a big thing

00:05:30.026 --> 00:05:36.246
that they have people like me says, you know what? You can't take that with you.

00:05:36.406 --> 00:05:38.746
You can't take those bricks with you.

00:05:39.626 --> 00:05:42.906
You just can't take them with you. I thought that was so funny.

00:05:43.306 --> 00:05:46.706
I'm thinking, I'm remembering I went over here. I took a break there,

00:05:47.006 --> 00:05:50.626
took a little bit of bricks from my little tour, thought I would just go home

00:05:50.626 --> 00:05:53.926
and have a little Israel collection of stones.

00:05:54.206 --> 00:05:58.086
And they pretty much says, no, no bricks leave this place.

00:05:58.266 --> 00:06:03.086
Put them in this big bin. And you look over at the bin and there was,

00:06:03.406 --> 00:06:08.586
You weren't the only one. There's bins of bricks that people try to take.

00:06:08.726 --> 00:06:14.406
And God is telling us on day eight, he's saying, no, burn the bridge back.

00:06:14.766 --> 00:06:19.326
Where God's taking you, you can't turn back. I don't know if anyone out there

00:06:19.326 --> 00:06:22.106
who tried to go back, it's just not the same.

00:06:22.506 --> 00:06:28.906
Things are not the same. And so you must make a decision today that you are

00:06:28.906 --> 00:06:30.906
burning the bridge back.

00:06:31.126 --> 00:06:39.246
No turning back. These are things this fast is meant to end permanently.

00:06:39.706 --> 00:06:43.226
God is saying like, I want to change you permanently, you know?

00:06:43.446 --> 00:06:46.546
Cycles that must stay buried under rubble.

00:06:47.226 --> 00:06:53.326
Relationships, habits, excuses, and mindsets that you must choose to leave behind.

00:06:53.646 --> 00:06:56.186
Breakthrough is not just about what falls.

00:06:56.526 --> 00:07:01.526
It's about what you refuse to rebuild, what you refuse to let go.

00:07:01.526 --> 00:07:07.906
Even Rahab, a woman who once lived in the wall, got out and didn't go back.

00:07:08.046 --> 00:07:10.126
She aligned with a new life.

00:07:10.306 --> 00:07:12.186
It's your turn now. Let's pray.

00:07:12.406 --> 00:07:16.826
Lord, help me to return to what you've brought me out of. Help me not to return

00:07:16.826 --> 00:07:18.486
to what you brought me out of.

00:07:18.686 --> 00:07:22.106
Close every door never meant for me to reopen.

00:07:22.566 --> 00:07:26.846
Sever every soul tie, bad habit, ungodly pattern.

00:07:27.186 --> 00:07:31.406
Let my testimony be one of transformation, not relapse.

00:07:31.526 --> 00:07:35.406
I burn the bridge back and I move forward.

00:07:35.686 --> 00:07:41.326
Declaration, I declare that I will not be going back. I walk in freedom, not fear.

00:07:41.526 --> 00:07:46.846
The walls have fallen and I will not try to resurrect what God has buried.

00:07:47.106 --> 00:07:49.586
My steps are ordered forward.

00:07:49.926 --> 00:07:53.946
My past is over. My future is blessed.

00:07:54.406 --> 00:08:01.786
Philippians 3.13 reads, forgetting what is behind and straining forward for what is ahead.

00:08:02.137 --> 00:08:08.357
Our fasting focus is fasting from anything that tempts you to return.

00:08:08.597 --> 00:08:15.917
That might be a phone contact, a form of entertainment, a musical playlist, a certain voice.

00:08:16.237 --> 00:08:23.397
Delete, block, lay it down. Whatever you do, don't go back. The journal prompt.

00:08:23.597 --> 00:08:27.837
What are some things or people you've been tempted to return to?

00:08:27.837 --> 00:08:32.157
Sometimes it does take, sometimes you even forget that you have,

00:08:32.297 --> 00:08:34.177
our phone collects every number.

00:08:34.437 --> 00:08:37.637
And even when you get a new phone, those numbers transfer over.

00:08:37.837 --> 00:08:42.517
And sometimes once you have those blocked numbers, sometimes they unblock themselves some kind of way.

00:08:42.717 --> 00:08:45.417
You know, and you're trying to get your life together. All of a sudden this

00:08:45.417 --> 00:08:48.397
random person who you thought you blocked, you go, oh my gosh,

00:08:48.477 --> 00:08:49.437
I thought I blocked that number.

00:08:49.637 --> 00:08:51.957
That number don't really mean you have to answer it.

00:08:52.257 --> 00:08:57.817
Let it ring, go to voicemail, then block it, right? You're not going back. You're not going back.

00:08:58.177 --> 00:09:03.777
What was failed though during this time? And how can you protect that progress, right?

00:09:04.017 --> 00:09:09.257
So we are in day eight and this episode right here, I think they're all powerful

00:09:09.257 --> 00:09:13.197
episode, but this one really brings back kind of reminder of me.

00:09:13.777 --> 00:09:17.537
Of probably a lot of us. Lot's wife was a story of Lot.

00:09:17.717 --> 00:09:22.197
Lot, the angels came to deliver him from Sodom and Gomorrah and his family.

00:09:22.437 --> 00:09:26.777
And there were, I mean, we always have this saying, you only got one job.

00:09:27.157 --> 00:09:32.237
And Lot's wife, only job was not to look back. He said, don't look back.

00:09:32.457 --> 00:09:35.397
And for some reason, she looked back.

00:09:35.697 --> 00:09:39.457
And when she looked back, she turned into a pillar of saw.

00:09:39.737 --> 00:09:44.377
And many times people say that when you look back, you stay back.

00:09:44.877 --> 00:09:52.117
You stay back. You got forward movement, but your heart ain't in that forward movement.

00:09:52.217 --> 00:09:54.657
Your heart is in that, in that staying back.

00:09:54.957 --> 00:09:59.337
And what happened most of the time, I don't have a statistical study,

00:09:59.477 --> 00:10:04.537
but I do have just from living long enough, you have some stories where people

00:10:04.537 --> 00:10:11.177
who say were made professional basketball and they went back to see their boys

00:10:11.177 --> 00:10:13.717
in the hood and they were killed, right?

00:10:13.977 --> 00:10:19.357
They got delivered from any major addiction, but when they went back, they died of overdose.

00:10:20.017 --> 00:10:23.597
Girl went back to hang out with her friends who she thought were her friends

00:10:23.597 --> 00:10:25.117
and they ended up killing her.

00:10:25.617 --> 00:10:31.857
And so sometimes when God closes those doors, they close loud.

00:10:32.417 --> 00:10:38.057
They close very loud. And yet sometimes, I'm just saying sometimes a lot,

00:10:38.257 --> 00:10:42.037
we want to look back like lost wife, what happened to them?

00:10:42.277 --> 00:10:44.897
And sometimes he doesn't want you to look back.

00:10:45.277 --> 00:10:50.637
God wants you to go forward. Amen. He wants you to go forward.

00:10:50.977 --> 00:10:55.737
And so today is one of us, I believe it's not a serious episode,

00:10:56.057 --> 00:11:01.437
but sometimes we go so we can go so far with God, but we keep having,

00:11:01.777 --> 00:11:05.117
keep the same friends who don't really believe in God.

00:11:05.237 --> 00:11:09.077
Are you thinking like, I'm going to win them to Christ? God will need your help.

00:11:09.237 --> 00:11:10.417
If he did, he'll let you know.

00:11:10.743 --> 00:11:13.863
But if he didn't ask you, then you need to get out of his way.

00:11:14.583 --> 00:11:16.223
Same way with your children.

00:11:17.183 --> 00:11:20.043
Same way with those places. I'm going to go to the bar. I'm going to get some

00:11:20.043 --> 00:11:25.423
people saved. And you, who the one got drunk, get arrested for DWI on your way home.

00:11:25.603 --> 00:11:28.123
Who did you get saved during that process?

00:11:28.723 --> 00:11:31.883
You never, ever benefit from going back.

00:11:32.023 --> 00:11:36.543
We all have a story of going back to maybe an old relationship when you've been

00:11:36.543 --> 00:11:41.923
delivered and set free. and then somehow you got sugar talked into going back

00:11:41.923 --> 00:11:44.223
and that never works out.

00:11:44.423 --> 00:11:47.983
And so for this episode, I want to say, just like Rahab did.

00:11:48.343 --> 00:11:49.943
Rahab was a story of victory.

00:11:50.283 --> 00:11:55.883
She didn't look back. And her story wasn't like she was a master of anything.

00:11:55.883 --> 00:11:59.763
She was a prostitute, but she decided to follow Jesus.

00:12:00.023 --> 00:12:05.663
And it says in the same scripture, Joshua 6, 25, among the Israelites to this

00:12:05.663 --> 00:12:08.163
day, She never went back.

00:12:08.203 --> 00:12:10.143
She never went back.

00:12:10.283 --> 00:12:12.863
She never, ever went back.

00:12:13.063 --> 00:12:18.563
But then we hear the story of Lot's wife, where she was delivered same way,

00:12:18.723 --> 00:12:22.963
supernaturally, by angels of God sent to rescue her.

00:12:23.143 --> 00:12:29.363
A Psalm 91 moment, and yet she looked back, and there she still stands as a

00:12:29.363 --> 00:12:35.803
pillar of saw, As a reminder of those that want to look back, they stay, they stay.

00:12:36.083 --> 00:12:43.443
So just a reminder, burn the bridge back. Whatever you have to do, delete the contact.

00:12:43.763 --> 00:12:49.703
You know what you got to do. Don't go to that place. Whatever you have to do, start your new.

00:12:49.923 --> 00:12:54.643
Bible says he's doing a new thing. Can you not perceive it? You see,

00:12:54.763 --> 00:13:00.783
Rahab perceived it and she waited with anticipation on the promise that she

00:13:00.783 --> 00:13:01.963
was going to be delivered.

00:13:02.283 --> 00:13:07.263
Can you perceive your new thing? Can you perceive that during the walls must

00:13:07.263 --> 00:13:08.983
fall, that you will be free?

00:13:09.203 --> 00:13:14.983
That would you just stay going forward, keeping your face like a flint towards your future?

00:13:14.983 --> 00:13:20.163
That God has something greater for you that has nothing to do with your past,

00:13:20.383 --> 00:13:27.083
right? that God can use you in a mighty, mighty way to help somebody else. Do you believe that?

00:13:27.263 --> 00:13:30.563
I believe that for myself. And that's why I picked those two.

00:13:31.103 --> 00:13:36.643
You have the prayer of Jabez on the front end of this podcast,

00:13:36.883 --> 00:13:44.343
where Jabez, who was standing in the middle of genealogy in 1 Chronicles, and he cried out,

00:13:44.817 --> 00:13:48.537
Lord, bless me indeed. Enlarge my territory.

00:13:49.057 --> 00:13:54.097
Keep your hands upon me and keep me from evil so I won't sin against you.

00:13:54.277 --> 00:13:56.497
And then it says, God answered his request.

00:13:56.797 --> 00:14:03.637
That means he burnt that bridge. He did not go back. Jeremiah 29 closes out the podcast.

00:14:04.137 --> 00:14:08.677
It says, for I know the thoughts and plans I have for you. And what does it say in the end?

00:14:08.797 --> 00:14:13.977
To give you an expected end. expect it in. What if you don't go back?

00:14:14.217 --> 00:14:19.437
And so I just want to encourage you for this day eight episode, don't go back.

00:14:19.737 --> 00:14:21.937
Burn that bridge. Do what you got to do.

00:14:22.517 --> 00:14:27.817
Keep focusing on intimacy with God and consecration and dedication.

00:14:27.997 --> 00:14:30.497
And I'll see you on the next episode.

00:14:30.937 --> 00:14:34.877
Thank you for listening to this episode. And before we close out,

00:14:35.077 --> 00:14:41.137
I want to speak a word of promise over you from Jeremiah 29, 11 through 14.

00:14:41.517 --> 00:14:46.897
Father God, you declared, I know the plans I have for you, plans to prosper

00:14:46.897 --> 00:14:51.417
you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

00:14:51.617 --> 00:14:53.977
So today we receive that truth.

00:14:54.237 --> 00:14:58.337
You said when we call on you, you will listen. So we pray.

00:14:58.537 --> 00:15:03.877
You said that when we seek you with our hearts, you will be found. So we pursue.

00:15:04.097 --> 00:15:09.797
You said you will restore us from captivity. So we declare freedom over every

00:15:09.797 --> 00:15:13.837
place where our listeners feel stuck, silenced, or small.

00:15:14.097 --> 00:15:19.917
Thank you for always drawing near when we show up in faith. In Jesus' name, amen.

00:15:20.560 --> 00:15:30.394
Music.
