Ch 3: Episode 3: Daniel's Persistence in Prayer

We are going to be covering Daniel today. And in this episode, we will explore the story of Daniel focusing on his persistence in prayer as depicted in Daniel 10 verses 1 through 21. Daniel's commitment to seeking God through prayer, even in times of intense spiritual battle, provides a powerful example for us all.

0:47 So stay tuned as we uncover Daniel's incredible journey and how his story can inspire us to deepen our persistence in prayer. And so our spiritual foundation scripture today is Daniel 10, verses 1-21. It's a lengthy one, and I want to read it all read it all. So we get a foundation. And then like always, I will go through scripture with reflections, and then we will go through some practical applications and some decrees. This is going to be real good because Daniel, I like Daniel, but remember, even though, we're talking about Daniel and this devotional is for women, but it can be for men too. But but it's my main focus is for women.

1:41 I want you to kind of imagine yourself in Daniel's shoes. And so chapter 10 in Daniel and verses 1 to 21, it's quite a lengthy one. So let's just read it through. It's like a story. So let's get it done. But I'm going to read it slow, get a nice foundation of what Daniel was experiencing. And then we're going to just walk through, put on his shoes and walk in his shoes, in his footstep through what he experienced. And then we have supporting scriptures. I just love the book of Daniel. So let's go. So it says in chapter one, I'm sorry, chapter 10, verse one, in the third year of Cyrus, king of Persia, A revelation was given to Daniel, who was called Belshazzar.

2:33 Its message was true and it's concerned a great war. The understanding of the message came to him in a vision. Verse 2, I'm reading from the National NIV version. And at this time, I, Daniel, mourned for three weeks. I ate no choice food, no meat or wine touched my lips, and I used no lotions at all until the three weeks were over. On the 24th day of the first month, as I was standing on the bank of the Great River Tigris, I looked up and there before me was a man dressed in linen with a belt of fine gold from UFOS around his waist.

3:22 His body was like topaz, his face like lightning, his eyes like flaming torches, his arms and legs like the gleam of a burnished blondes, and his voice like the sound of a multitude. Verse 7. I, Daniel, was the only one who saw the vision. Those who were with me did not see it, but such terror overwhelmed them that they fled and hid themselves. Verse 8. So I was left alone gazing at this great vision. I had no strength left.

4:02 My face turned deathly pale and I was helpless. Then I heard him speaking and as I listened to him, I fell into a deep sleep, my face to the ground. A hand touched me and set me trembling on my hands and knees. He said, Daniel, you are highly esteemed. Consider carefully the words I'm about to speak to you and stand up for I have been. Stand up for I have now been sent to you. And when he said this to me, I stood up trembling. Verse 12. Then he continued. Do not be afraid, Daniel.

4:46 Since the first day that you set your mind to gain understanding and to humble yourself before your God, your words were heard and I came in response to them. But the prince of the Persian kingdom resisted me 21 days. Then Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me because I was attained there with the king of Persia. Verse 14. Now I have come to explain to you what will happen to your people in the future for the vision concerns a time yet to come. While he was saying this to me, I bowed with my face towards the ground and was speechless. speechless, speechless.

5:34 Then one who looked like a man touched my lips and I opened my mouth and began to speak. I said to one standing before me, I am overcome with anguish because of the vision, my Lord, and I feel very weak. How can I, your servant, talk with you, my Lord? My strength is gone and I can hardly breathe. Again, the one who looked like a man touched me and gave me strength. Do not be afraid, you who are highly esteemed, he said. Peace, be strong now, be strong.

6:16 When he spoke to me, I was strengthened and said, Speak, my Lord, since you have given me strength. Verse 20. So he said, Do you know why I came to you? Soon I will return to fight the prince of Persia. And when I go, the prince of Greece will come. But first I will tell you what is written in the book of truth. And that was the reading of Daniel chapter 10, verses 1 through 21. And we see here that Daniel vision, this was Daniel vision and his angelic encounter after a period of fasting and prayer.

7:03 You know, so the angel showed up pretty much on the 24th day. We always say it was a 21 day fast. So you have to read your Bible. So he came on the 24th day. We don't know when he stopped fasting. How powerful is that? So Daniel is fasting to get answers, and then he has an angelic encounter. So let's go verse by verse and see what God has to say through these scriptures. So let's go to verse 1 through 3. We see in the third year of Cyrus, king of Persia, a revelation is given to Daniel. He mourns for three weeks eating no choice food and using no lotions.

7:46 So we know that fasting is part of what Daniel does. In the last episode, we see Daniel fasted the royal foods, and so he ate vegetables and water. He drank water. We see here again, Daniel does it again. So his way of honoring God and to get close to him and to get more wisdom in what to do is fasting. So he's eating no choice foods. And this time he's using no lotion. So that means that he's not even bathing. So he's taking this to another level. So Daniel's commitment to fasting and prayer sets the stage for a profound spiritual encounter.

8:32 His mourning and self-denial reflects his deep desire for understanding in God's intervention. Intervention so in matthew 5 6 it says blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness for they will be filled so as we know this that this is daniel but we women too can actually it says he mourned for three weeks so he it says three weeks so three weeks is 21 days so it actually says that so daniel sought the lord for 21 days and so he prayed and he fasted not even taking time out to shower or shave, the things that men do.

9:17 And he just sought the Lord for answers. And he had a spiritual, angelic encounter. And the Bible says that if we are blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, and they will be filled, that they will get an answer. And then two, it says the appearance of angels. Let's go to verses 4 through 6. Let me try to stay on script because this is so, so good to me because I love the book of Daniel. Because 4, 6, it says, On the 24th day, Daniel has a vision of the Tigris River.

9:59 He sees a man dressed in linen with a belt of fine gold, whose body is like topaz, face like lightning, knee, eyes like flaming torches, arms and legs like the gleam of a burnished bronze, and the voice like a sound of a multitude. The vivid description of angelic figure emphasizes the awe-inspiring and overwhelming nature of divine encounters. Daniel's vision highlights the reality of spiritual beings and the majesty of God's messengers.

10:45 I mean, I just want to just review what Daniel saw. What did Daniel see? This vision, he saw a man dressed in linen with a bell of fine gold, whose body was like topaz, face like lightning, eyes like flaming torches, arms and legs like the gleam of burnished bronze, just a lot of sparkle, sparkle and voice like the sound of a multitude.

11:27 And so we see that this angelic figure had a lot of bling to it, had a lot of majesty. And so just a lot of royalty. And then when he spoke, he spoke with a lot of power. Right. And there's a scripture in Ezekiel, and Ezekiel also had that same experience. In Ezekiel chapter 1, starting verse 20 through 28, I want to read that because I like to have supporting scripture. Not only did Daniel see that, but also Ezekiel had a similar experience.

12:12 Experiencing this majesty of angels. People say, I saw an angel. And you're just like, you saw an angel? What did you see? Because I want majesty. It starts in verse 20. Like I said, I'm reading from the NIV. And I'm trying to, I don't want to read too much, but I want you to get an idea of what he saw. And okay, I'm going to start at verse 27. 27, I saw from what appeared to be his waist up, he looked like glowing metal, as if full of fire. And that from there down, he looked like fire and brilliant light surrounding him, like the appearance of a rainbow in the clouds on a rainy day.

13:02 So was the radiance around him. This is Ezekiel describing this angelic experience. This was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the Lord. When I saw it, this was Ezekiel, he said, when I saw it, I fell face down and I heard the voice of one speaking. So we see that when there's an encounter of angelic, that they lose, people lose their strength, and they fall face down. And then we see here in verses 9, Daniel 10, chapter 10, verses 7 through 9, that Daniel alone sees the vision, and his companions do not see it, but they feel, they feel a great terror and flee.

13:56 Daniel is left alone, and his strength leaves him. Daniel fear he didn't run because he's been waiting. Everything about him left him, his strength left him, and he falls into a deep sleep with his face to the ground. He just fainted there. It says Daniel's physical reaction to the vision underscores the overwhelming power and holiness of the encounter. It also illustrates the personal nature of divine revelation. As Daniel is singled out for this experience. So we see here that Daniel was there. He wasn't alone.

14:40 His friends fled. He stood there, but he just fainted. And so that also happened to John in the book of Revelation. So let me find that for you. And it says, It says, when I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead. John, Revelation chapter 1, you can read it from 12 to 17. I'm going to pick it up right at 17, verse 17. When I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead. Then he placed his right hand on me and said, do not be afraid.

15:21 I am the first and the last. So John actually saw Jesus in Revelations, and John saw him and he actually fainted. And so Daniel's reaction, he's fainted, Ezekiel fainted, John fainted. So there's experience of angelic. Messengers, God's messengers, the first reaction is you bow down, you faint, energy is left your body. And what does the angel does? The angel speaks. And so in verse 10 through 14, we see here that a hand touches Daniel, setting him trembling on his hands and knees.

16:06 The angel Peter reassures him and explains that his words were heard from the first day he set his mind to gain understanding and humble himself before God. I want to pause here. We see here that when Daniel set his mind to gain understanding, when we set our mind to gain understanding, standing, when Daniel humbled himself before God, when we humble ourselves before God, our words are heard. And he said, and the angel said, I came for your words. And the angel, he said, the angel had been delayed by the prince of Persia kingdom, Persia, Persian kingdom, but received help from Michael, one of the sheep princes.

16:57 So we see there was a spiritual warfare going on. Even though he heard Daniel's prayers, he heard his words the first day, there was a delay. So the angel message reveals the spiritual warfare that takes place behind the scene. Daniel's persistence in prayer is crucial in this battle, highlighting the importance of perseverance in God's will. How does that play out? Many times we'll pray. We have, we pray for something and we didn't receive that immediate answer. Maybe we pray for a week, maybe pray for two weeks, maybe pray for a year and we still haven't received that request, that perseverance.

17:45 Have we prayed for a year? I don't know. But Daniel set his mind to gain understanding. He set his mind to understand and humble himself. So he wasn't going to quit until he really received an answer. And so we see here that Daniel's persistence in prayer is crucial in this battle, highlighting the importance of persistence. If you have your Bible, I want you to go with me to Ephesians chapter six, and we know what Ephesians there, that's putting on our armor, Ephesians six.

18:27 And we're going to start at verse 10. I'm in the NIV. You might have in your, I want to just read it first 10. I think I'm going to go all the way to to, let me see. Let's go to verse 18 all the way, because this is very powerful, because this is what spiritual warfare looks like, right? It says, verse 10, it says, Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil's scheme. So when we talked in the beginning about the miracles and the impossibles, we have to know that there's an enemy out there. So we, when we begin to pray, we just have to make a stand and we're standing.

19:14 We put on the full armor of God and we're standing and we're strong. It says here, be strong in the Lord and his mighty power. Put on whose armor? We're putting on the full armor of God. And so that's how we stand strong in the God. That's how we stand strong. And so it says, take your stand against the devil's game. I'm reading, I'm in verse 12, for our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore, verse 13, put on the full armor of God so that when the day of evil comes, you will be able to stand your ground.

20:04 And after you have done everything to stand, stand firm with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to this, take up the shield of faith. With which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the spirit, which is the word of God.

20:48 And verse 18, and pray in the spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord's people. And so I read that only for a fact that Daniel was that type of prayer person. He knew he wasn't fighting against flesh and blood. And so he stood his ground. He was persistent in prayer and crucial for battle. So this is important as we stand for our miracles, as we stand for the impossible, that we need to stand until we see our blessing, as we see our miracles, right? So let's keep going.

21:35 Daniel's strength was renewed. So Daniel had an encounter after he stood, he stood that Daniel in verse 15 to 19, that Daniel was speechless. And he says, Daniel was like, oh, after he was touched, he stood his ground, he saw the angel, he knew he had his answer and Daniel was speechless. And another touch from the angel strengthened him An angel reassured Daniel, calling him highly esteemed and tells him to be strong and courageous. Like, good job. You still strong. That made me strong.

22:15 We got this. Let's do this. God messengers provide the strength and encouragement needed to continue in the face of overwhelming spiritual encounters. Daniel renewed strength signifies God's support for those who persist in faith and prayer. Wouldn't that be encouraging? This is so powerful that Daniel was persistent in his prayer and his answer prayer showed up. Yes, he fainted. Yes, he fell out. But the angel touched him and he was renewed. And he said, thank you for being persistent in prayer. and Isaiah 40, 31 said, but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength.

23:03 They will soar on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint. Hallelujah. And then we're in verse 2021, the revelation of spiritual warfare. Verse 2021, it says the angel explains the ongoing spiritual battle. I like when the angel gives you more revelation. Stating that he must return to fight the prince of Persia and that the prince of Greece will come. He also mentioned the book of truth and Michael's support. So he says, this fight is not over. So I want you to, this fight is not over, but thank you for praying. The fight is not over, I got to return.

23:48 So this passage concludes with a reminder of the continuous nature of spiritual warfare and the need for divine intervention. Daniel's role in this battle through his prayer highlights the importance of intercessory prayer in God's plan. Yes, intercessory prayer. When we pray, we just pray, not because we need anything, just because we just pray. Intercessory prayer. We're interceding on behalf of others. We're interceding on behalf of others, not always for ourselves. And we see here in Daniel 12, one of the, at the time, Michael, the great prince who protects your people will arise.

24:34 We, we pray, we energize, we energize the spiritual realm for the battle. Yes, we know the battle has been won, but we're still fighting. We're still fighting. Have you got your prayers answered yet? And so we need your energy in the spirit realm. What was Daniel's reward? Verse 20 and 21, Daniel received a revelation of spiritual truth and insight into the future. The angel's messages and the visions given to Daniel provided him with the knowledge about the spiritual realm and God's plan for his people.

25:17 Daniel's persistence in prayer and faithfulness resulted in profound spiritual insights and understanding. This reward is a testament to the death of God's response to those who diligently seek him. Wow. The response. I'll say that again. Daniel's persistence in prayer and faithfulness resulted in profound spiritual insights and understanding. This reward is a testament to the death of God's response to those who diligently seek him. The death of God's response was he sent angelic response just to keep encouraged to encourage Daniel.

26:03 Wow. Because Daniel sought God for understanding. Jeremiah 33, 3 says, call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know. I'll tell you, just call on me and I'll tell you things you do not know. How did Daniel feel? So we're going to explore his feelings, thoughts and feelings. Daniel, persistence and patience. Daniel's commitment to three weeks of fasting and prayer shows his dedication and patience in seeking God's guidance. My question to you is, how bad do you want it?

26:46 How bad do you need God's guidance in any area of your life? I think we started out the affliction of the soul with fasting, and we're still here. How bad do you want it? Daniel committed three weeks to fasting and prayer. Not only fasting and prayer, he said he didn't even bathe, no lotion on his skin. So if he had no lotion, you probably know he didn't brush his teeth. He didn't take a shower. He said, I'm not moving until God moves. And then what did God reward him with? Angelic. Angels showed up. Overwhelming awe. awe, the physical and emotional impact of the vision reflects Daniel's awe and reverence of God's presence in the spiritual realm.

27:35 He had an opportunity, he got an opportunity to see and talk to angels. I'm saying that could be your goal or your whole purpose in praying and fasting, but they came in. They didn't come in in no blue jeans. They came in in their royal garb to talk with Daniel, to give him an update. How powerful is that? Daniel, we heard your prayers on the first day and we still out there fighting for you. Keep on going. Keep up the good work. I got to go. Whoa, that's powerful.

28:15 Encouragement and strength. The angels reassured and the angel's reassurance and renewal of Daniel's strength demonstrates God's care and encouragement for his faithful servant. So even after fasting, you're exhausted. I mean, your body, you know, he's probably having vegetables and, you know, vegetables and water. That's good. He's probably was exhausted after having this great spiritual experience. He said that he was encouraged and the angel having a touch from God, you think that body will feel the same? He probably didn't want to eat anything else. Don't touch that spot because the angels touched me there.

28:59 And then the fourth point is gratitude and revelation. Daniel's reward of receiving profound spiritual truth would have filled him with gratitude and a deeper understanding of God's plan. So let's explore what Daniel felt. He had persistence and patience, overwhelming awe, encouragement and strength and gratitude for revelation. How do we apply Daniel's experience to our lives? Let's see. Persistence in prayer. Of course, that's the title of the episode.

29:40 Like Daniel remains steadfast in prayer, even when answers are delayed. So even when answers are delayed, you don't stop praying. So here we go. So action stuff. Identify a specific area in your life where you need persistence in prayer. Commit to prayer, praying for it daily. Persistence is something that you do regardless, right? Your persistence. And, you know, if you have small kids or if you have like small animals, anything that needs some care, you know, because if you have a dog that always has to go, they have to go to, you know, out to go to the restroom or kids that's always tugging on you, you know, that persistence, you know, if you have teenagers that need your car or, you know, they got an event, you know, they can be persistent, you know.

30:36 So how do you remain steadfast in prayer, identify a specific area in your life where you need persistence? I think if you pick something that you have, maybe you have set aside and said, God is not going to answer to that. How about you pick that back up, set a dedicated time each day for focused prayer, use your prayer journal to track it, because you probably already have a prayer journal now, and track your requests and track God's promises. I mean, track God's answers. And so number one, persistence in prayer, identify a specific area in your life where you need to be persistent, Consistent, right?

31:16 Maybe, like I said, something you have, say he's not going to answer that. And then, you know, put that back on your list, set a time and just track, start tracking and see how God answers your prayer. It's always so much bigger, so much better. Number two, recognizing spiritual warfare. Understanding that spiritual battles are real and require perseverance and faith. Equip yourself with the armor of God as described in Ephesians 6, 10-18. All right, I had a cough there. Equip yourself in the armor of God and as described in Ephesians 6, 10 through 18, find your favorite verse, your translation.

32:02 I read them in awe sometimes. I like the NIV, sometimes I like the message. Find your favorite one and then read it. Maybe take your time and get a Bible app and read it in different translations every day So you understand that you are equipped for spiritual warfare. You have your equipment on and you pray for strength and you pray for protection. For my police officers out there, you know, you put on your armor every day. You pray over your armor every day, according to Ephesians 6, 10 through 18. Prayer for strength and for protection. And also Psalms 91.

32:45 All right. And in practical steps, memorize key scriptures related to spiritual warfare and use them in prayer. When you feel spiritually attacked, that will be your homework assignment. And if I gave you all the scriptures, then this would be another about two or three hour episode and we're not going to go there. So find out scriptures that for spiritual warfare that you would need. Put on your armor and then find how to fight by scripture. Find out how to fight by scripture. There's many books out there. There's many decrees out there that you can begin to get up and fight, but be persistent. You can't, it's like fighting a fight and you only show up every other day to work out, right?

33:32 So you're not going to win if you just don't continue to be persistent. Prayer, fasting is part of your workout plan. So when the fight happens, it doesn't catch you off guard. So be ready to fight you know be always have your you know your wherever your your special routine if you're a karate expert you're ready to fight in your karate style your boxer if you're a runner whatever you how you fight but you always gotta always train be ready to fight and then when it happens it doesn't catch you off guard so recognizing what spiritual warfare is is not your friend and ain't your foe. Remember we don't fight against flesh and blood. So then you know how to fight. So memorize scriptures, but also memorize them. But remember.

34:18 Use them when you pray. So pray the word of God. Number three, seeking God's strength. Trust that God will provide the strength and encouragement needed to persevere. So we don't want to, it says, don't want to do it without God. So don't go out into the fight because the fight is, you know, don't get out there in a fight without God. Reflect on times when you feel weak and how God God provided strength and thanking for his faithfulness, right? So when you memorize scriptures, it's different scriptures for different fights, right? You know, like you don't season your chicken with beef seasoning, right? And so make sure you get the right scripture for the right fight.

35:02 And then incorporate scriptures about God's strength and encouragement into your daily affirmations. If you pull off some of these, like some of these, I said, these devotions are available on my website. You can download them. And some of the scriptures are there. They're fighting scriptures. Any scriptures that, all the scriptures are fighting scriptures, if you really think about it. Like I said, don't get so super, don't think everything's a fight, but stay strong, put on your armor and stand strong with God and you're ready. He's fighting your battles for you. Just be ready to pray. Pray right. Stay right. Stay holy. And then embracing revelation is our our last one.

35:43 So embracing revelation, like Daniel, be open to receiving and understanding God's revelation. Spend time in prayer. How many times you got to say prayer? Pray, pray, pray. We said it four times. So we know that it's persistent in prayer, not always praying. I think I covered that. Not praying the 911 prayer, not the 411 prayer. Just kind of be on like a 2-1-1 prayer. Just pray. Pray. Spend time in prayer and meditation. Ask your God to reveal this truth to you. Just have a regular time that you pray. We ain't too busy for anything else. Set a time.

36:26 It could be 6 o'clock. It could be 7 p.m. It could be whatever time that you have that this is the time that I pray. I like to pray and walk. It could be in the evening. you know, when it's, when it's, I'm in Nebraska, so it's cold. So I just, you know, set a time and I go down to my living room and just pray. If it's the evening and it's kind of cool, go for a nice walk and just pray and walk to something to get me moving, to get me focused off the day's activity. Right. Once again, keep a notebook to document any insights or revelation consolation that you receive during prayer. I always believe that if you bring a notebook to prayer.

37:09 It can have all your stuff in it regards your prayer requests. You got your questions and everything, but always have a clear note because if you bring your notebook to prayer, have a separate notebook for your revelations that God's going to give you. Just have a notebook for your stuff, right? But have a notebook just for you and God to, to, he can just talk to you. You know, like I said, I keep one on my phone if I'm walking, so I don't want to miss a thing. But if I'm at home, I have my journal where it says, keep a notebook to document any insights or revelation you receive during prayer and study. Because as you're praying, then God can speak to you and he knows that you're going to write it down.

37:55 And you don't have to stop right there. You write it down. And then when you're done praying and he's done talking, you can go back and kind of do a little bit more further study in what that was. And you'll find out like you got an answer to one of the in your big journal of prayer requests that you have an answer. You might even have maybe, you know, a process. Maybe you have a way to get something done. You will have an answer to your prayer request or you might even have some wisdom and how to do something or something new. God is always doing something new. Just a quick review of what we just covered here. Some practical applications of how we can walk like Daniel.

38:40 And I just believe, God, that we also will have like an angelic experience. If not an angelic experience, maybe that God's presence will fill the room. That's just good enough for me, too, that God will show up. So we will be persistent in prayer. we'll recognize spiritual warfare you know we will seek god's strength we will embrace divine revelation i will write that down embrace divine revelation that mean when he says something you write it down you show that he's you're not just seeking him for stuff you're seeking him for wisdom knowledge and divine revelation and understanding and all those times that you seek him, you'll find out that journal get really, really full.

39:30 And then you were like, wow, this is good stuff. And you're walking, you're looking forward to that time of prayer. It's like Daniel. I told you Daniel from the first chapter to Daniel to the end of Daniel is impactful because he puts to work what people talk about. He's fast. He prays. He gets revelation after revelation. He gets encounter after encounter. I just want to read this last bit because this is what I really I told you I love Daniel. I want to add this. This is not in the script, but the part I like about what God tells Daniel at the end. I got to look it up. Give me a minute.

40:13 We're going to do the devotions. Hold on a second. All right. I'm talking so much that my throat is getting dry. All right. And this would be Daniel. Come on. The last thing that he tells Daniel, and this is it. And he says, Daniel and Daniel 12, 13. This is how good he was for Daniel. He says, as for you, go your way till the end. You will rest. And then at the end of the days, you will rise and receive your allotment and inheritance. That's a promise to Daniel because of his obedience, that at the end, Daniel will arise.

40:56 He will see all his prayers answered. He will see everything that he had prayed for answered. He said, go away and rest. We've done for the day. So let's go through these decrees and go. Let's go. So I decree that like Daniel, I will persist in prayer, trusting that God hears my prayers and will respond in his perfect timing.
