Chapter 10: Ep 4: When God Speaks: The Power of His Promises

0:00 Hello, and welcome back to the Diary of a Black Woman podcast. I'm your host, Connie Morris, and I'm so glad you joined me for the final episode of Rooted in Our Faith series. Today, we're exploring the power of God's promises. God's Word is filled with promises that sustain you, guide you, and give us hope. These promises are not just words on a page. They are living, active, and effective in our lives when we trust and believe in them. If you ever doubted the power of God's promises, today's episode reminds you that His Word never returns void. I love that.

0:48 God's Word never returns void. the certainty of God's promises. It's found in Isaiah 55, 11. So if my word that goes out from my mouth, it will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it. This verse reminds us that God's promises are always fulfilled. Now that should give you rest. That should give you peace. His word is unchanging and dependable. When God speaks, things happen.

1:31 His promises are not limited by time, circumstances, or human understanding. Trusting in God's promises mean believing what he says will come to pass, even when you can't see it yet. Isn't that powerful? When God speaks, things happen. Are there promises from God's word that you've been holding on to? I would say keep holding on because when God speaks, things happen. Not in your timing, but in God's timing.

2:14 Let's look at some people who held on to God's word. Abraham and Sarah. God promised Abraham and Sarah a son, even though they were old and barren. Now, when the Bible says you old, you know you old, right? But they were old and barren. Isaac's birth was proof that nothing is impossible for God. Lesson from this is God's promises may take time, but they are always fulfilled. That's powerful, right? So Abraham and Sarah was promised a son.

2:58 They were old and barren. They said nothing is going to come from this womb or from that body either. But yet God gave them Isaac. So you need to remember that God's promises may take time, but they're always fulfilled. Number two, the Israelites in the wilderness, Exodus 16, 12-15. God promises to provide for the Israelites. He sent manna from heaven to feed them daily. Lesson here is God's provision is perfect and timely. while they're in the wilderness, and God provides for them manna from heaven every day.

3:46 Three, the promise of the Messiah. God promised to send a Savior, and Jesus fulfilled every prophecy about the Messiah. Lesson, God promises are eternal and bring salvation. So we see here that God's word does not return void. They didn't return void in Abraham and Sarah's life. They didn't return void in the Israelites in the wilderness. They did not return void when it was a promise that a Savior will come and bring us eternal life and salvation. Trusting in God's promises for our life. We often struggle to trust God's promises when we don't see immediate results.

4:35 But the key is to hold on in faith, knowing that God's timing is perfect. 2 Corinthians 1.20, it says, For no matter how many promises God has made, they are yes in Christ. And so through him, the amen is spoken by us to the glory of God. All of God's promises are fulfilled in Jesus. When you trust in him, you're saying amen to his word, agreeing that it is true and it will come to pass. So how can we live in the power of God's promises? Here are some practical steps.

5:18 Study his promises. How do you know what promise they are if you don't study them? So study his promises. Spend time in the word, searching the scripture to speak to your situation. And the scripture, we use it before, Psalms 119, 105. Your word is a light to my feet and a lamp unto my feet and a light to my path. And so understanding that the word is a light and a lamp. And so being able to find your promises, help you find your way to Jesus and help you know what you can really believe in. Right. So you don't listen to all the craziness. You're like, if God said it and this word makes things happen, then I can trust in God's word.

6:05 Speak his promises over your life. That's why we do the decrees. Speak his promise over your life. Declare God's promises, the law, as a way to activate your faith. Proverbs 18, 21, it says, the tongue has the power of life and death. So what are you saying over your situation? Are you saying the things you need to say? Are they life or are they death? Well, you can tell if your life is full of life, then you're saying the right things. If not, then you might want to change up your words. So speak, speak his promises over your life.

6:45 And number three, stand in faith. Trust God even when the circumstances seem impossible. Wow. Abraham and Sarah did, right? They just said, okay, you said it, Lord. And, you know, they had a little shaky moment. But at the end, God showed up and said, she's going to have a baby by this time next year. And guess what? She did. Remember Hebrews 11.1, Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see. So how do we live in the power of God's promises? We study His promises, we speak His promises, and we stand in faith on His promises.

7:32 Here goes the one we're going to decree His promises. I decree that God's word will not return void, but will accomplish his purpose in my life. I decree I trust in God's perfect timing and provision for every need. And I decree that every promise of God is just and amen in Christ Jesus. So this week, take time to reflect on the promises of God that have already come true in your life. Write them down as a reminder of his faithfulness.

8:13 Choose one promise from the scripture and focus on this week. Whatever that need is, like pick a promise. What do you believe in God for? Write it down, memorize it, and decree and declare it over your life. Let it be part of God speaking to you. You're speaking it back to him. Hold on a second. And then let's close out in prayer. Heavenly Father, thank you for the power of your promises. Teach us to trust in your word and to stand in faith. Even we can't see the outcome. Remind us that your timing is perfect and that your promises never fail. Help us to live daily in the truth of your word. In Jesus name, amen.
