00 Welcome to the Diary of Black Women podcast, where faith, growth, and transformation takes center stage. I'm your host, Connie Morris, and today we're continuing our Faith on the Go series, and we're diving into an incredible aspect of how God speaks to us through dreams. This episode is titled Empowered in Sleep, Finding Strength in the Mighty God Through Dreams. We've already explored how Jesus brings peace to our dreams. Still in this episode, we'll focus on the strength he provides, especially when we feel the weakest.
45 Whether you're battling an overwhelming situation or need to be reminded that God's power is with you, I pray that today's message encouraged you to lean on him. Let's pray. Father, we thank you for being our strength and we are weak. As we discuss how you, mighty God, revealed your power and strength through our dreams, open our hearts and minds to receive your message. Help us to see that even in our sleep, you are actively working to renew, restore, and empower us for the journey ahead.
28 In Jesus' name we pray, amen. In Isaiah 9-6, one of the many powerful titles given to Jesus is Mighty God. This title speaks of the limitless strength and sovereignty that Jesus holds. He is more than just a savior. He is our protector, our warrior, and one who fights on our behalf. When we think about the challenges we face today, it's easy to feel overwhelmed. We can run out of energy, lose hope, or feel like the weight of the world is too much for us to carry.
11 But God's word reminds us that we don't have to rely on our own strength. Ephesians 6.10, Paul writes, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. This isn't just encouragement. It's commanded to lean into God's power, trusting that he will provide the strength you need. I remember a time when I was going through a highly challenging season. I was physically and emotionally, spiritually drained. One night, I had a dream where I felt the presence of Jesus in such a powerful way.
55 I didn't see him, but I knew he was there. In the dream, I was carrying a heavy load and felt like I couldn't go any further. But then, in the midst of my struggle, I felt a sudden surge of strength, like a divine hand lifting the burden off of my shoulders. When I woke up, the message was clear. God's strength is made perfect in our weaknesses. This dream was a reminder that I don't have to carry the load alone. Jesus, the mighty God, is with me, offering his strength when minds run out. Have you ever had a moment like that? Times when you're at a breaking point and God gave you strength you didn't even know you had.
42 Sometimes those reminders come in our waking moments, but often God speaks to us in our dream, giving us a glimpse of his strength and the power when we need it the most. Throughout the Bible, God has used dreams to empower his people. One powerful example is found in the story of Gideon in Judges 7. Gideon was about to face the Midianites, and he was feeling unsure and weak. But during the night, the Lord spoke to him through a dream about the victory he would achieve. The dream gave Gideon the strength and courage to move forward in faith.
24 Even though the odds were against him. This story shows us that God's strength isn't just for the battle we face when we're awake. It is also for the time when we're asleep when we feel vulnerable and uncertain. God's strength transcends the physical realm and pours into our spiritual and emotional, I like to say, in our supernatural realm in our lives. Just like Gideon, we can receives strength through divine encounters in our dreams that prepare us for the challenges of him. How many of us have had a dream where we in the natural was having a fight, but in this dream, this supernatural realm, we were winning.
10 That's what God does. When we encounter Jesus as the mighty God in our dreams, he reminds us of his power that goes far beyond what we can see or feel. In our daily lives, we often strive to handle things on our own, but God wants us to rest in the knowledge that his strength is sufficient. He knows when we're weary and in these moments of sleep, he can restore and empower us to face the next day with renewed energy. Think about it. Sleep is when our physical body recharge, but God can also use the time to recharge our spirits.
54 We might not always recognize it, but dreams are often a way for God to remind us that his strength is working in us. Even when we feel powerless. Can I get an amen? Amen. I've never thought of it that way. That dreams that even our rest is the way that we recharge our physical body. Our dreams is the way that God recharges our spiritual bodies. So here are some practical steps for receiving God's strength in our dreams. If you're feeling like you're running on empty and need to experience the strength of the mighty God, here are some few practical steps to help you receive his strength, even in your dreams.
40 Like I said before, many times when I know that God wants to speak to me, I will go to bed early. My excuse, I just feel heavy. I feel drained. I feel tired. And I know that I need, I know I need physical rest, but I, physical rest, but also I know I need to, to touch base with my supernatural God. And so I would go to bed early. And just recently, I know it was a rainy day. It rained all day in Nebraska. I mean, it rained from the moment I woke up until I went to bed about 530 that afternoon. It gets dark early around here now. And I was like, when I get out of work, I'm going to go home and I'm going to go to bed.
24 I prepared for bed early and I went to bed and I had a dream. I knew God was going to give me a dream, but I just knew that I need to be mostly spiritually recharged. And so that can be your excuse to say, I just need to be physically recharged and go to bed and watch the mighty God just recharge you. But here we go with some practical steps Number one. Surrender your weaknesses. Before you go to bed, bring your weaknesses before God. Admit that you feel powerless and ask him to be your strength. Let him know that you trust him to carry you through.
04 And it's so easy to carry that weight with you to bed and toss and turn and worry about it and how it's going to work out. But try giving it to God. Say, I surrender all this to you. and I think I left it at the front door. You know how you go like, leave your worries at your front door. If you have a garage, leave it at the garage, leave it in the car, whatever, leave. Don't bring that junk in the house. Lord, I had a bad day, I'm leaving it here. Leave it at work, let's do that. Let's leave it, don't bring it in the house, don't bring it near the houses. Lord, I'm going home, I'm going to bed, I'm leaving it here. I'm gonna let you handle it here. Number two, pray for divine empowerment.
45 Just as God gave Gideon strength through a dream, ask him to empower you in your dreams. Pray that he revealed his might to you as you sleep, reminding you that his strength is perfect when you feel weak. That's powerful. So you pray for divine empowerment. I need, Lord, I got to, maybe there's something you have to resolve at work. Maybe there's a problem or issue you need to resolve or some project you need to finish. and you're like, I am stuck on this, ask him to help. I remember just moving to Nebraska and Nebraska is a quiet place. Nothing happens in Nebraska, at least from my perspective here.
29 And so my member of the Lord was putting on my heart to write some books and I was puzzled because I don't know nothing about writing a book. I never wrote a book before. But yet I got 178 journals, hello, and two books that are in first edition print. But God will empower you to do the impossible. And so I remember saying, okay, I'm going to start this book. So first thing I did was outline the chapters that I want to write. And I said, Lord, I need your help. And know what he gave me? In my dreams, I was able to write these books by chapter.
12 I will say, I'll give you an example. So I'll have an outline. It was from my master thesis. I had what I wanted to do. And master thesis and writing a book is truly different. And so the titles would have to change. And so I had the idea, but it didn't settle in my spirit how God wanted it to go. So I said, Lord, what are going to be the topics? And that's what I'll ask before I went to bed. I said, Lord, what's your vision of this book since this is your idea, right? So I'll go to bed and then in my dream, I can see. So then I'll wake up and I'll write down the titles of the chapters.
55 I said, okay. So then that would be my first day. I write down the titles of the chapters and I was like, interesting. And then I'll organize what I had in my thesis according to what I had in those chapters because, everything didn't fit underneath one topic so I had to kind of cut and paste and just kind of see how that was going to fit with that so that took almost all day to do that but in Nebraska there's nothing else to do so just snow and cold so I did that the first day first four chapters I did I did that in the first four chapters and then didn't know kind of finished the first four chapters based off being led by the Holy ghost through dreams, through dreams, trust me. And then finally got someone to say they were actually, let me write a textbook.
42 And I was like, what, but it's going to be 12 chapters. I said, 12, I said, I think I got about 17. I think this book got about maybe 20 chapters. My first book got like, I think it's 20 chapters, 17 to 20 chapters. And each one after the fourth chapter all came from a dream. God would show me something in a dream and I'll write the title of the work. It was kind of different because what he gave me, I didn't have knowledge of before in my waking day, but he would give me knowledge of it in a dream. I have to go research it out and that would be that. And how do I know the chapters were done? I will go back to sleep.
23 Isn't that cool? God was my editor-in-chief. And I'll say, Lord, is that chapter done? And I'll go to sleep. And then, oh, if he didn't give me a new chapter title, that means that that first chapter, that chapter need more work. So I'll go back and I'll finish doing more work on it. And then when I know it's done, he'll give me another chapter. That's a long explanation, but divine empowerment does happen in the dream. I wrote two books on divine empowerment, that God will give you divine empowerment through your dreams. And you will feel so empowered. You feel like you just want to go back to sleep to get some more wisdom and revelation from the Lord because they all come from him.
08 Like I said, these devotionals are divine revelation from God. It was like God was showing me how he wants things done. He will give it to me. I'll go research it, write it all out with help of the Holy Ghost, of course. And then I'll go, is that done? Then I'll get another chapter. Number three, like I mentioned in every other episode, is the journey of dreams. How powerful is that? If you look at, you don't know, you can't look at it, but if you keep track of all my devotionals, you'll find out that they're just a journal of my Bible study or my dreams, right? Or my life. And so keep a journal by your bed.
49 And when you wake up, write down any dream that leaves you feeling empowered or strengthened. I would say all of them. You can put empowered or strengthened next to your dream in your journal, but write down all your dreams. Even if they don't fully understand them over time, you might begin to see how God is using those moments to restore your spirit. So write down all your dreams, whether they feel empowering or not, and you will see how God will strengthen you up. I think in my limited knowledge of not a dream expert, but remember God is slowly walking me through many, many dreams, is that he is training me for something.
31 And so remember, God is a trainer, teacher. And so everything you do, if you actually. This is powerful. Begin to memorialize what he tells you. Write it down. He begins to give you more. He begins to give you more and more and more. If you just brush it off like it's nothing, you won't get anything. You won't get anything. I memorialize it in my devotionals. Then I memorialize it in my podcast. So God is like, okay, girlfriend, I'm going to give you some more. Now, yes, it can be overwhelming. But at the end of the day, it's not for me. It's for those people, for you.
11 If you are growing in the podcast and in the word that I'm learning, as I'm teaching, as I'm growing, then this is powerful. It's for you. Our walk with God is never for ourselves. It's always for others. And so journalize your dreams, journalize it, little small things, little things he speaks to you throughout the day. I have a, like I have a, on my phone, I have a journal that I keep. That's what I write on. I don't keep it on a paper because I did that. I lose it. Right. So we know we keep our phone and then it saves to the cloud. And so I have everything that I wrote in my, it's dated, it's timed and everything that I can write when God speaks to me during the day, during the night.
57 I wake up in the middle of the night and I just journal it. What I do is I put a star word from God, star if it's a word from God, if it's a star dream. And I just kind of journal my dreams. So it's so important just to journal your dreams. Keep track of them. And number four, meditate on scripture. Got to read the Bible. Reading the Bible, putting the word of God in you allows you to identify God's voice. Today, I just wrote a journal on bow. It's called bowing to the beast or bowing to God. And so towards the end time, which we are in, if you are not able to discern the voice of God, You will bow to the beast system and not even realize it because you haven't took time to put the word of God inside of you. And so we're going to get to that.
51 That's going to come up later. But it's so important. If you ever notice a theme that I give you is to get the scripture in you know, the voice of God for yourself. So meditate on the scripture, spend time meditating on scripture that declares God's strength. Why? So you can be have discerning to know the voice of God that you can discern between a false prophet and a real prophet, false miracle or a real miracle. So you don't take the mark of the beast, but you take the seal of God. Amen. That you won't you won't be confused. You won't get it twisted, but you will know the voice of God.
33 Because he is speaking to you through your dreams. He's speaking to you throughout the day and you are alert and you're active and you're discerning it and you are memorializing it and you're obedient to it. It just creates just a solid foundation. Now, example of that is if you got children and we have obedient children and we got some disobedient children, can I get an amen, right? And those obedient children, You don't have to tell them to clean up their room Wash the dishes, take out the garbage They just do it automatically Once you get them You train them well As they're growing up I want you to do this, this is your responsibility ABC, and they do it automatically Then you have some Some of your children You have to act like they never heard the rules Before, and you always have to tell them This is what I need from you They're still asking to use the car Why are they still thinking that the rules have changed since they got older, but really nothing has changed.
36 And so you're looking at the obedient child and the disobedient child. The one that listens to you, just like God talks to us and we obey. And then the ones who hear the voice of the mother and the father and still disobey. That can happen in real life as we get to the end times where we know the voice of God, but we still continue to disobey because we want to have our own way. But if we meditate on scripture, I know that was extra. We meditate on scripture. We're spending time meditating on scripture that declares God's strength. Verses like Philippians 4.13 says, I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
16 Can help prepare your heart to receive his empowerment. Trust that God will meet you where you are and renew your strength even as you sleep. Have you ever went to bed weak and woke up strong because God had renewed your strength while you rested? Healed your body while you rested? it. Number five, reflect on his promises. Sometimes we just have to reflect on what he's already done. And this morning I woke up and I think it's Psalm 79 in the message. And I never saw it before, but the Lord gave it to me.
58 And what it says, it's a song written by Torin Well, well, do what you're famous for. And you're like, where is that in the scripture? Guess what? Psalm 79, Lord, do what you're famous for. Reflect on his promises. Do what you're famous for. So put Psalm 79 down and put in the message and you'll read that and you'll be like, wow, Lord, do what you're famous for. What are you famous for? So when people see you, they'll say, wow, oh, God still does that. We want that, right? We want God to do what he is famous for in our lives today. Amen.
42 So reflect on his promises. Sometimes we need to remind ourselves of God's promises in the Bible about his strength. And since I mentioned that, I didn't write that scripture down. It's not in my notes, but I'm just going to pull it up right now and just read it fresh off the path, Fresh off the press, let me find it in my Bible, Psalms 79. Oh, let's see. In the message, sometimes, let's find in the message. I hope that's the right one.
22 All right, I'm going to have to look it up later. I think that's it. But sometimes we need to remind ourselves of God's promises. The Bible about his strength, Isaiah 42, 19-31, tells us he gives strength to the weary. He gets strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even the youth grow tired and weary and young men stumble and fall. But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like ego. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint. Let this truth encourage you. And so I'm going to find my devotion that I wrote today.
04 I'm going to find that scripture. don't you? Psalm 79, 8 through 9, 79, 8. Here it goes. Okay, here it goes. Don't blame us for sins of our parents. Hurry up and help us. We're at the end of our rope. You're famous for helping. God, give us a break. Your reputation is on the line. Pull us out of this mess. Forgive our sins. Do what you're famous for doing. Don't let the heathens get by with their sneers. Where is your God? Is he out to lunch? Go public and show the godless world that they can't kill your servant and get by with it.
49 Lord, do what you're famous for. When we begin to trust God, his promises, and we just kind of say, Lord, do what you're famous for. Sometimes we can't remember for everything he's famous for, because God is famous for a lot of great things and miracles he's done in the Bible, but do Lord what you're famous for. Do what you're famous for. Mighty God, you are a mighty God. Do what you're famous for. Take a moment now to think about areas in your life where you're feeling drained and powerless. Are you carrying burdens that are too heavy for you? Are you facing challenges that seem impossible to overcome? I want to encourage you to surrender those areas to God tonight before you sleep.
33 Ask him to give you strength in your dreams and to empower you with the might that only he can provide. And that scripture is found that I just read. Do what you're famous for in Psalms 79 in the message translation. Before we end this episode, I want to remind you that God's strength is not just for you when you're awake, but it's for every moment of your life, even in the quiet hours of sleep. Jesus, our mighty God, is always ready to renew and restore you. If you're feeling weak today, know that his strength is available for you. He's fighting your battles, lifting your burdens, and empowering you to keep moving forward.
21 Heavenly Father, we just come before you and we pray to you. Mighty God, we thank you for being our strength. Thank you for reminding us that we don't have to carry the weight of the world on our own. As we sleep, we ask you to renew our strength, to empower us through our dreams, and to remind us of your might. Lord God, do what you're famous for. Help us to trust you fully, knowing that your strength is perfect in our weakness. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen. Once again, I want to thank you for joining me today on the Diary of a Black Woman podcast with our Faith on the Go series.
04 I hope you feel encouraged and ready to embrace the strength that Jesus, our mighty God, offers through your dreams. Stay tuned for our next episode where we'll explore the everlasting love of the Father through divine encounters with dreams. Until then, be strong in the Lord and remember you are never alone.
